This is a little random, but its probably more interesting than “i feel a little better this morning, and hopefully i can manage to have a productive day but im behind already because i have been sick for the past two days”… i have a problem, and it really effects my productivity when i am here at home.
i can’t get the damn cats to stay off my lap.
If you are familiar with the 12″ apple powerbook, you will know that it is NOT a very large laptop. try typing on one with a 10 lb cat on your lap. It doesn’t matter how much i try to toss them off or push them away, these cats feel they have some god given RIGHT to my lap. The damn cat will nudge her way into my lap between me and the laptop and then curl up and push the laptop away to make more room for herself. She has literally pushed my laptop back with enough force sometimes to toss it to the floor (i think thats how my screen got bent recently :(. And what’s worse is that even when i can manage to type and hold my computer and have her there at the same time, she gets pissed off at me for moving around and irritating her! gyaaahh!!
(she’s doing it right now, actually. She’s starting to get irritated at me for typing so much.) and if i get rid of her, another cat will move in and start the whole process over. Anyways, i love my cats, but they can make working at home a real struggle, they REALLY don’t know when to quit and they never give up. I thought cats were supposed to be quiet, sleepy and aloof. yeah, right. not my cats.

As I’ve said, cats are wonderful creatures, but they drive you insane as best they can. I swear one of these days my evil cat is goina hoark up a minion from the depths of hell.
I personally love cats, until they do things like that. The only reason that they are doing it is because they are either spoiled, or you have neglected to give them attention for a while. You decide which.^^
There’s something about cats and computers. I can’t keep the cats away when I work on my desktop computer. I used to think it was the monitor heat, but they do it even with my new flat screen monitor. Maybe cats are electrical.
Very familiar with that syndrome. In my case keyboard apparently equals bed, whether it be laptop or desktop, even sometimes on a keyboard shelf 3 times too small for a large cat to lay on comfortably.
hmmm, would you mind so much if they were catgirls……?
hehe i’m sure sarah would though!
I too got sick with yon Creeping Crud last Tuesday and am still suffering. We can be miserable together. Gek. x.x
As for kitties, well — how about putting the laptop on a table that’s a comfortable height for you to use? That way you can work and beclawed beastie gets the lap she wants. (I have three k33t00ms myself, the adorable pests. One of them particularly insists on occupying my lap when I’m wearing black; then again, I’m told this is universal among domesticated felines everywhere.)
As the mommy of three cats, I feel your pain immensely. Unfortunately, a desk or table doesn’t always help because then my cats will normally sit in front of the monitor. When I got my new desk, I made sure it had enough room to hold the iMac, my manga review books, other computer stuff and at least two of the cats comfortably. I called it my cat-capacity.
Ah I”m not the only one who has a cat who is jealous of me spending my time on something else besides her! She loves to take over my chair, if she can’t sit there she’ll sit on my monitor! She has a habit of sitting between me and my keyboard, when I move her she’ll sit right by my mouse giving me a little bit of room to work. Awwl I had some links of pics of her but it looks like I can’t do that in comments
I’ll just post them here:

Yeah… no one can own a cat… they just let you feed them, and even then it comes with conditions.
Yep. Dogs have owners; cats have staff.
I may not be alone in this, but lately it seems that my cat is trying to take over the world. Not in any overt means, but whenever i address him, he just gives me a look that says “I would kill you for your insolence. But it serves my purposes to keep you alive…”.
Try http://www.mycathatesyou.com/ if you believe for a second that cats are NOT trying to take over the world.
A little suggestion if I might.
Cat’s can be insanely annoying sometimes. I have 5, and I love them all to bits, but they can deffinatly try your patience.
So, a suggestion. Try finding a room with a door that you can shut, set up everything in there, and shut them out. It may be a bit annoying, but it beats being constantly pestered.
ive got 2 cats and one of them feels that she has that same ‘right’ to my lap. shutting my bedrom door doesnt help in the least since my cute little neko neko can open it without much of a problem….
Actually cats are great companion, but as PsychoticPrincess already posted is almost imposible to not think that cats are trying to rule our world.
I had a cat (that migrated himself to the other world), and he always liked to annoy me… He sitted on front of my PC monitor and just stay there… Then suddenly in the middle of crossfire, started to play with my hand on the mouse… It was impossible for me to make him stop.
Next time the cat does it, just hug her and don’t let go no matter how she struggles. She’ll learn. ^_^ Worked with my psycho tigger/kitten, Ophelia. That cat’s crazy…
Heh…there are times when I’m glad pets aren’t allowed in my apartment complex. Otherwise, I’d be tempted to get one, and then I’d know exactly how you feel.
As is, I have enough fun dealing with my parents’ cat…she’ll let me get near her, and sometimes even pet her for a bit. But, just when I least expect it, *swat!* And, as if that wasn’t enough, she’ll *come after me* and try and swat me again! She doesn’t seem to have any problem using her (always sharpened) claws, either; I’ve actually got a couple of scars on my hands from that little furball.
*giggles*…we’ve got a pride of kitties here…11 cats..(my poor allergies… -_-;; )…8 of them are my papa’s…3 of them are mine…and it’s just crazy…there is nothing safe…definately not the laps, nor the puter desks…it’s just crazy…and they’re massive bed hogs…all of them…it’s crazy…I still don’t get how something so small can take up soo much room….go fig…
Mate, I know exactly what you mean. This morning I woke up with the biggest of my 3 cats sitting on my chest. After regaining the ability to breathe properly I proceeded to trip over the youngest, and land in a big mess of fur and claws, which up until this point was happily sitting and purring away on my loptap. Miraculously, my computer survived, but I doubt I’ll be able to say the same for the cats after today is done…
Ah, yes cats and computers are an ammusing (and often annoying) mix. My cat’s 20 pounds and diabetic, but for some odd reason he feels that my PowerBook’s keyboard is a great place to take a nap even while I’m using it. Either that or he chomps down on the power cord (I think he’s bitten through / punched enough holes in to render useless about 3 or 4 power cables) or the corners of the screen.
Working at a table doesn’t always help much (generally it just gives the cat more ways to approach the computer). The idea to just keep them out of the room when your working just might be the easiest and quickest solution.
Haha! Sorry, but I find that funny. Did you ever try luring them all away with food? Toys? Lock them out of the room and turn up your music so you can’t hear their desperate meowls through the door? Works for me. Of course, I only have one cat, and she’s attached herself to my dad.
I think that happens to all computer and cat owners, although mine tends to stand on the keyboard and try and attack the cursor on screen, it is funny at the time, until your legs get numb…my cat is a demon anyway, it spies on people, really creepy cat…
…when did you put a webcam in my apartment? ^^;;
Snickers does exactly the same thing, except she also tries to climb over the Powerbook to climb up my chest, when I’m sitting on the couch. o.o
(She also chestcats me when I’m lying down, but that at least I can handle.)
**Snicker** I glad to hear I’m in good company, other than the cats. I feel for you, I have had more than one model project torn up because of may cats.
lol….. cats rule…… even if they need to be put in a room and the door shut on them once and a while….. they still rule…. my cat just lies around downstairs all the time… on the couch…. tho she did manage to get onto my bed today…. and thats why i shouldntve left my door open…. some times it’s a good thing cats dont walk on two feet and/or have aposable thumbs (or however it’s spelled)
