back to the grind
I can’t believe i actually managed to do a comic in a more normal time frame yesterday, even to finish it an hour early. I haven’t done that in a while. I hope that means that i’m finding my groove again, i really do. It kinda feel like it. I was in a rut of not being able to finish comics on time and having to rush to finish them the next day. That, of course, just pushed things behind with everything else including the next comic, and it is a cycle that’s really hard to break. Throw in a few holidays, a busy online retail store, a smattering of disasters and forest fires, and frankly, i think i’m doing pretty good, considering
The blogging stuff here on fredart has worked out pretty good. I feel comfortable with it, and I think it helps give a little more of the connectivity that has been missing with my inability to rant on the MT site as often as i would like. I can take 10 min and do a blog entry, but a MT rant takes a lot longer, i think people expect them to be more (hell, i expect them to be more) and the fewer i do, the more people expect out of the ones i do do and… as you can see, its a pretty bad cycle.
lots of stuff to talk about, i’m gonna turn over and see what i can do about putting a rant together for MT. I have lots of things that i want to do and get better at doing for the new year. One of them is to start free sketching more - this site needs more sketches. It is also my goal to work on coloring. I am not really happy with the kimiko poster. it doesn’t really feel like my own style, not yet. Anyways, i think i’ll talk about some of this stuff over on MT.

hey Fred, great job getting back into your groove and producing comics early/on time. But will Friday be a story strip, or a OSE?

I don’t suppose I can borrow your avatar’s cluebat over in the SD forums? heh…
Good work on the methodical milestone hitting… good luck on the Megagear project (eek…).
Do you mean the Kimiko poster you served up for sale recently? The blues and greys were nice (sad girl in snow, whee), it hangs on my wall with all the other posters. Color does seem to be your albatross though… its quite a different medium than pencil and the shading that works so well in pencil often gets lost in color… all I can suggest is rubbing up against as many other artists as you can and sponging up the tricks and techs.
Well… back to my mind-numbing server repair… we’ll see if I can be “first” to pre-order a pile of books this weekend

Like always, you’re doing good Fred :)…good rant…good comic…good goals…see…good all around…now just don’t get sick again and you’ll be all set…(I really should take my own advice, cuz I am sick again…I’m not fond of winter…=/ )
Best of luck with the inventory stuff…We’re starting that at Borders soon and I’m already dreading the ‘beep’ that will haunt my dreams for weeks…*shudders*…
Oh, and I can’t wait for book 3 to come out at my store I work at…most of the time I shelve all the manga and whatnot, so that will be a real cool moment for me when I get to put it out there among all the other manga titles…(I’m so strange ^^;; )

I don’t mind the lags in MT, as long as they get in eventually…

As everyone (who’s reasonable) has said, we’re just happy you’re giving us the great comic that you are.
And while the Kimiko poster is pretty contrasting to the Piroko poster on my opposite wall, it’s still an excellent piece. I’m glad I rushed to buy it as soon as I did, and even more so that you actually printed it. =)
