brain freeze
Bleah. I can feel it today. I can feel it and i haven’t even tried to poke it to see how bad it is. Writers block. Ah, hell. It’s probably not as bad as it feels right at the moment, sometimes on days when i feel writers block pretty bad are days when i come up with particularly decent ideas. I hope today ends up like that.
I think i’m finally back into the zone of writing rants for MT again. I had a friend tell me that by reading the rants of the past two years, you get a fairly bleak impression of my moods and attitudes, and i think he was right. I have been tending to rant only when i was worked up about something, or had news to pass on. It’s been rare that i’ve ranted about the good stuff. The fact that i haven’t ranted much positively in recent years is something you might be able to look at and make certain conclusions, but right now i can say that i have a lot of stuff to write about, and i’m going to try to maintain it better this year.

I really enjoy reading your rants, Fred. They seem to give insight into what you are feeling and your frustrations and victories, it is really kewl. It is also really interesting how sometimes your mood mixes into your art. I am a firm believer that emotion effects the outcome of your art. It is even more interesting to see that your rants seem to mix with the mood of some of your comics. All my art ends up being dead-pan or pretty somber in mood (a side from the fact that I am just OKAY at it), but I think it is kewl how your comics show a whole slew of emotions. Keep up the great work Fred.
P.S. Being an otaku fanboy is a hard life to live now-in-days… I am glad that there are a bunch of them on here… Doesn’t make me look like such a nerd… (^-^)

“The signature OP song for Kanon was missing! Come on, “Last Regrets” has to be one of the best damn songs ever (well, it is! There’s only one i might like better, but i’ll get to that later :P)”
Indeed it was. I listened to it 3 hours straight on repeat 0_o;
Only do that with a couple of songs, and I don’t do that often.
Anyways, is it just me, or are those three girls in the pic of the MT rant Ayu, Nayuki, and Makoto???

“Tori no Uta” wasn’t bad either, but it doesn’t hold a dime to “Last Regrets” in my book :-p

If anyone has a lead on a torrent for ep. 3 I’d appreciate a link.. my usual sources are silent on the subject.
Just email me if you feel uncomfortable blurting it out.

apologies for the double post but editing isn’t a feature here….
Just watched ep. 2 of Air (fansub torrent) …. it is wierd and ditzy… and absolutely beautiful to watch. This is based off of a game???
Ep. 3 doesn’t appear to be available yet dammit Fred, now I’m hooked.

For those interested in the lessons page, I suggest looking at the sketch and dump box pages for now. Studying these are helpful in learning the style Piro uses.
Don’t try to copy things exactly or you won’t learn and develop your own skills. Just use the pics as a guideline for things like proportions, character stance, costume, facial expression and hair.
Hope that’s helpful. Just because there aren’t lessons doesn’t mean you can’t learn from Piro. Taking a stab at things on your own can be helpful in learning your own weaknesses and strengths.

Gomen… found ep. 3 — I find it interesting how the series starts off appearing “normal world” then moves into this, um, “alternative reality”?
Ah… well.. push the decongestants and hot tea — my whole household has some variation of winter ick at the moment.

“Last Regrets” was in the Kanon series… Just only at the end of the last episode… But I could be a different version of it or something (havent heard the orrigional game soundtrack, or played the game either)
Just started downloading Air… Can’t wait to see it! ^-^
Well then, ja ne!

Rant. Go ahead. We’ll listen.
January 24th, 2005 at 11:14 pm
Fred - Its nice that you rant, its good to give yourself an outlet for your energy, be it positive or negative. You do realize, however, that all of the people who post in response to this are people who enjoy finding out more about you the creator of megatokyo. So anything you read here is already going to be biased.
Rant away, you’ve got at least 16 friends here who will read it.

Hm. I had just posted a long comment.
Anyway i basically said that you should rant, because its healthy to let your emotions out through writing. You can’t go by what we say here in your fredart blog though, because we look forward to reading your rants.
Rant away.
