spending, spent.

I think Megatokyo chapter 6 is rolling along nicely, and even at a good enough clip to keep it from turning into the bloated disaster chapter 5 turned into (thank god chapter 4 and chapter 5 will be in different books, or the book containing both of them would have been an abysmal nightmare and i prolly would have beat myself to death with the bluelines) Book 3 looks pretty good, and god knows i’ve packed enough of the damn things that i’m kinda sick of looking at them. ^^;; Tho actually i was sick of looking at it before the damn thing even went to press. ^^;;

I’m feeling a little brain dead now because tuesday was completely taken up by other things, and by the time i did get started on Wednesday’s comic, i was having trouble getting the it to come together. Part of this was because i sorta ended up pulling two comics together which resulted in a single comic that worked fairly well. Once i finished up today, i was once again feeling spent. It’s a pretty common feeling after you finish creating something, believe it or not. The suckiest part of any day is having to push on with other things once you finish something major. Maybe i’m just lazy, i dunno. :)

I could really use some crash time tonight…

Well, I’ve reread Volume 3 about 10 times now already… *kinda sad, but oh well. Not like I do anything during English II. Read Vol 1 and 2 about 20 times…* and I’m still not sick of it.

When you’re brain-dead, spend time with other people, listen to music, rewatch certain “Key” anime….

But I do have to ask… How does one get sick of something they put together so well? I’d be kinda proud, even if it is a lot of work.
In any case, whatever you do is your decision. Just making some suggestions.

    My copies arrived today…
mmmm, the Endgames short is full of goodness. I must say the meat of the book seems nicely cleaned up as well…. these are perhaps some of the more solid parts of the story .. though chapter 6 looks like you’re in full recovery.

I’ll bump my request - if anyone can give me some leads on where a copy of the PC version of the game Air might be found, I’d be appreciative.

    http://shop.himeya.com/products/
    adult_win_jp_hk/air/air.html

(peice it together :P) Himeya has it, but you can also ask a specialty retailer to pick it up for you. For instance http://www.animeten.com/
or http://www.hoteiyalasvegas.com/ <– i know folks from both of these stores, so they won’t mess with you :P
They won’t have it, but they can get it for you. Himeya or some other might have it in stock.

have fun. :) Be sure to get the Air OST while you’re at it.

Oh yeah, if you don’t have any “work” work left to do for the day, even if you want to get ahead, try getting some more sleep… it might help… *I ought to get back to Chemistry hw, but… its so stinkin late I can’t concentrate…*

    Fred,
I read about your doings with the warmth series and how you are redoing things. Well, if you think you need to redo the art part, that is entirely up to you. Artistic creativity and all. But, I just wanted to say that you have a talent for telling a good story. The few pages of the old warmth were captiviating and wanted to draw me in. I get to the last one and am left sitting there going “AND THEN WHAT?!?! AUGGG!”. That is a talent you should be proud of. Keep up the good work.

  6. vexx says:

    Many thanks for the leads…
Looking forward to see what you can do with Warmth with your “modern” drawing skills.

    My two cents on Warmth…

Rather than rework a perfectly fine chapter, continue onward. Better is the enemy of good enough.

I found the artwork very fresh and the story caught my interest. It definitely captured a sense of place. I’ve been reading comics and comic strips for 40 years, and I can be a tough sell.

I really enjoyed it. I want to read the rest of it. I would be willing to pay for it. If it is published, I will buy a copy of the book. Consider the project successfully teased…

I just read ‘Warmth’ and I think I know where all the mittens go! They somehow find their way to my home, but only the ones that go to the left hand.

For some reason, my home is full of left-hand mittens…

    yo fred
is there any where you can get air for possibley a little less than $70. i hate being poor -_-.
    any ways ja ne

  10. fredrin says:

    takun,

    http://key.visualarts.gr.jp/product/index.htm

there are two versions of the AIR game for PC, the original release (which is 8,800 yen) and the all ages version (which is 5,800 yen). so, right off the bat, its $88 bucks or $58 bucks, picking it up in japan. US retailers cannot get these games wholesale - if you buy it here, more than likely they paid full jp retail for it BEFORE they offered it to you. Hence, thats why real japanese imports are so damn expensive.

    hope that helps

  11. Ah, before I forget, one minor nitpick I have with Mt book 3.

Being a two page spread, ‘Broken Miho’ suffers somewhat from being so near the back of the book, where the binding is less flexible. It’s difficult to see the middle without putting undue strain on the spine. It might be easier to view it properly if the ‘In Search of Lost Wings’ series was between the chapters, where the spine is more flexible.

Told you it was pretty minor :p .

    Keep on rockin’ on.

  12. fredrin says:

there are two other major goofs with book 3, and i haven’t said anything because i dont think most people even notice them, but if you can figure out what they are, dont tell people or point them to this info. They are noticeable if you look (and they will be fixed in reprints :P)

  13. There’s one minor thing I can think of that was missing, although I doubt more than a couple of people noticed it’s presence in the first two books, and no, I’m not saying what.

  14. fredrin says:

if its at the front and the back of the book, you got it :) That was not omited on purpose, it was an error that got missed on the final check. Reprints will have it. First editions of book 3 will be pretty easy to spot.

  15. Omar says:

Ah yes, The days when you have to spend the whole day doing important stuff, and at the end of the day you only have about 10 minutes to realax. Those are the days I hate. Well, the only thing I can say Fred is good luck, goooooooood luck.

  16. StarStorm says:

Mistakes or not, I love my copy of book 3 XD…and I agree with others…Chp 6 is looking very well…and you really do need to just take a vacation or sormething, like week that you and Sarah can hideout and enjoy the snow for a while…Yeah, there’s Megagear and stuff to take care of but, you know what, you can just have that shutdown for a week too *shrug*…we know you’re busting your tail-end off major for a while now…honestly…maybe it will help you recharge (and think of all the pc/viddy gaming and anime/mange you could catch up on if all you did was just stay home *impish grin*…)

    Anyways, you’re doing awesome…everything is great imho…and just keep on smiling… =)

  17. Ray Kremer says:

Took me a minute, and I may have never noticed had it not been mentioned, but I figured it out. Such a minor thing. Misspelling Ed’s name was worse.

From the grammar nazi department, page 6 does have one it’s/its mixup. :P

  18. Fern says:

OK, I got a copy of book 3 (mail seems to be kinda slow lately, so I went ahead and grabbed the only copy sitting out at the local Borders), and here’s my super-condensed opinion:

    I like it. A *lot*.

I love the Endgames mini-comic, and I’m looking forward to seeing how you continue the ‘gameworlds’ aspect of the Megatokyo storyline in future volumes. As others have put it quite well, Fred, you rock.

On a completely different note, Fred, do you (or anyone else reading this) know if anyone either has a current MT strip mailing list or might be willing to start one? My ship will be deploying in the near future, and Internet bandwidth is virtually non-existent when we’re at-sea. Myself and the other Nimitz MT fans would be eternally grateful. ^_^

  19. vexx says:

A mail list would be a fabulous idea for our traveling fans…
I’m buried til the end of February but if it hasn’t been addressed I can take a look at the idea in March.

  20. vexx says:

Didn’t mean to step on MT crew toes…. but a small group of people could do this as a fan service for the military fans… like I said, after February I could take a look if no one else has by then.

  21. Nishiko says:

*throws hands in the air* Thassit. I give up.

Fred-san, ol’ buddy, ol’ pal, o best sweetie darling evar — WHERE THE BLAZES DID YOU FIND THE AIR OST? I made the mistake of watching the series and got so badly hooked on

  22. vexx says:

The http://shop.himeya.com Fred mentioned above has the Air OST in stock at last check … their site is kind of a bear to navigate but it was there earlier.

It only has the PC game “Air for all ages” though…
(in Japanese .. no dubbing I guess)

  23. Fern says:

Well, bugger it all…dammit Fred, but now you’ve got *me* hooked on Air! (and I mean that in the nicest way possible…) For some reason, I seem to pick up on a lot of the stuff you mention on MT and Fredart; for instance, way back when, you mentioned that you liked Haibane Renmei — I have the DVD set, the OST, image album, an artbook, and a wallscroll. Not long ago, you posted a blog entry about the iLap — I ended up picking one of those up at the Macworld conference in San Francisco because I’ve been looking for a decent lapdesk for quite a while. And so on, so forth…

In short, you need to stop linking to cool stuff, Fred…my checking account can’t take it anymore. ;)

  24. vexx says:

yeah.. I’m having to be *real good* until I figure out my tax pain… I just hope the Air OST and stuff doesn’t vaporize while I’m computing….

I don’t suppose your LLC is tax deductible contributions, eh Fred? :)

  25. Neko-san says:

I enjoyed readying teh Volume 3, was very fun to read over & over & over & over again, ^^
    Love teh endgames story, XD!

  26. Terra Sekora says:

Nyew I know the feelinng! I have gotten one page done once, then right after had to sort through all my biology homework, do laundry, the dishes, and still have algebra homework. It all feels good in the end, just not in between! And I forgot who told me this but thanks! I haven’t read about Fred wishing he wrote things out first, but your comment made me feel better! :)

  27. Nishiko says:

vexx: It may just have been that I was dead tired at the time, but after finding it in the site search, I couldn’t find a ‘buy’ button anywhere. Blagh. -.-;;;; Fortunately, my still-in-Shizuoka brother took pity on me when I squalled to him and he’ll try to find it for me.

    Ditto what Fern said about linking to neat stuff. *raspberries in Fred’s general direction* :}

  28. Fern says:

Nishiko: Here’s how to find the ‘Buy It’ link to the Air OST (remember to use Internet Explorer, as much as I despise it):

    Go to http://shop.himeya.com

Using the left-hand navi-bar, browse to DVD/CD JP -> CD; the Air OST is in the bottom 1/3 of the page, and the ‘Buy It’ link is at the right edge of the row. Hope this helps!

  29. vexx says:

yeah, what Fern said.. start at the homepage and navigate down using the left bar… (it is a horrific site :) ).

I broke down and ordered the OST — something to listen to while I do taxes :)
Still searching for the *full* version of Air before I order the “all ages” version (which I’m concerned may have other edits).

—Say wai for Ping and pass her some pie—

  30. Ray Kremer says:

Fern, the issue of fans on Navy ships at sea has come up before. Look back at Fred’s rant for MT strip 181. You probably just need to send him your e-mail address.
