NOOOOOO….
Why, i say, WHY does the next sub of the next episode of AIR have to come out on or about SUNDAYS?? howabout monday afternoon guys? GIve me a break! you bastards! (pulls out hair)
Heh, i shoulda known. Well, i’m gonna be firm about it this time and not watch the this next ep till tomorrow. I’ve found that when i do watch this show on sunday mornings it causes all sorts of problems with my own creative process. It’s not that it doesn’t inspire creativity in me, it’s just that it’s not the right KIND of inspiration for doing Megatokyo comics, if that makes sense. Great for ‘warmth’ perhaps, but thats not what’s due today.
Oh, i got the most bizzare email yesterday. Someone actually recognized the vending machines and the location where i took this picture in Sendai. Not only did she recognize them and the station where they are located, but that she actually LIVES there.
This isn’t like some station in Tokyo, near Akiba or Shinagawa or something. This is a small out of the way normal sized station on the JR line going from Sendai to the bay. It’s the location where i plan the base the warmth story (i may not use the actual station and town name, but then again i might, not sure yet).
Anyways, that was fun. It amazes me sometimes where you can find people who read MT. Now if i could just put her to work to do some more research for me there…

yh, I justfound Air ep.8 and there are almost 2,000 seeds for it…. Well Fred I hope that you can hold yourself until tommorrow from the 3v1l grip of Air and it’s cute art style.
best of luck fred, i failed. And i have an exam on monday!! gee………
yah, i just got air ep. 07 friday and 08 this morning. its kind of hard not to watch air, its one of those animes that just wills you in and can change your whole day… that kind of sucks. but thats whats cool about it.
hope you can hold off till monday, i would not be that one. ^_^
best of luck fred
Hehe, When you love Air so much… its just realleh hard not to watch it! ^^
Fortunately, my constraints on downloading (thanks to Direcway) pretty much guarantee it’ll take most of the night to finish downloading so it’ll be lunchtime tomorrow before I can watch ep 8.
Finally downloading Kanon after all this time (in background)… they have the eps combined in 2s and 3s so that will take several days for me…. gosh, just like the 1980s… thanks to Verizon (for not providing broadband to my area) and to Direcway (for not really having a clue on how a “professional/business” account should work).
its times like these where I wish I had Dial Up so I could resist stuff like this…
And I got a history test tomorrow too! ARGH!!!
Your post topic got it in one, Fred…saw it pop online at about 1am or so this morning, had it grabbed by about four or so (not quite sure when, actually…I kinda dozed off in the middle of the download ^_^; ). I like, I like a lot.
I’m still not gonna forgive you for mentioning this to begin with, though.
(just kidding…this is actually the best anime I’ve seen in, well, years…oh, I got the OST and the all-ages PC game from Himeya, thanks for pointing those out!)
T_T::weeps openly::
I don’t know why, but whenever I try to download anything off of bittorrent I can’t play it. Something about not supporting the Codec that compressed it or some other jargon…?
I don’t know. If anyone has an idea why, please reply or something…. I CRAVE AIR!
Oh, and am I the only one who wouldn’t mind if Piro took a week or more off to get Warmth started?
Sano
well, i think i get the question…
one is, you cant play the video until it done downloading.
two is, if you have got it downloaded and its still not playing, try to download divx, and then it should play… you can get divx for free at download.com/
i hope this was some help. ^_^

“Oh, and am I the only one who wouldn’t mind if Piro took a week or more off to get Warmth started?
Sano”
Well, if he did officially start it off, he’d have more work to do per week/day *depending on how often he cares to update*, and as we can see from reading his rants, his lack of rest/free time or whatever seems to be affecting him in various ways. I would think we should let him decide when he is ready to start it.
Two things, the first to Aaron. Yes! Thank you! All I needed was the DivX Codec, which I thought I had, but was mistaken. Thanks so much, plain type like this can’t express my enthusiasm.
The next, to Kane. I am certainly not trying to push him into overworking himself, and I agree that he should start it when he wants to. I only meant that since he obviously WANTS to make some progress on this project, I think that his fans would understand if he wanted to take a week or so off to work on it. Don’t want to come off as one of those “Piro hasn’t killed himself and therefore must not be working hard enough” type of fans. ^_^

Actually… Fred’s biggest problem from my perspective is the innumerable fans always telling him to sit down and take it easy — “killing with kindness”. If Fred is anything like a lot of us — that deadline pressure is vital to getting things done: else it gets put off forever. Racing against deadlines is more painful than doing things in a methodical way — but, in my case, if you give me a 2 week extension, without a tremendous amount of monitoring energy… I’ll just not start for 2 more weeks.
Fred’s choices may or may not be realistic, but until he puts a Fred-cam up so we can watch how he spends his day - we’re really in no position to offer advice. Frankly, I have no idea where he’s going to insert the “warmth task” in his day but apparently he thinks he can carve out a slot. I’ve suggested that MT move to a 2 day a week schedule (perhaps with more panels???) for Warmth time — but again, for all I know Fred spends 4 hours a day in meditation and he’s going to grab that timeslot for Warmth
Its the mystery of Fred …. don’t take any of this tooooo seriously.
Haha, now you know what it’s like to have to deal with something you enjoy having a shitty release schedule. :oP
(Couldn’t you post the new strips at like, 8:00pm? Would it be so hard? Would it? Graaagh. :oP)
Actually, I too was going to mention how well you captured Sendai, but in relation to your “Warmth” drawings - I live in Iwate-ken, so whenever I find myself travelling south, I find myself going through Sendai on the JR line. Looking at your drawings, I was instantly taken with how they captured the city shape and skyline. Very impressive stuff.
Roight, given that this is Tohoku, the snow has been falling since the morning (its 1pm just now), and it is time to huddle down with a nice hot cup of coffee and stare out at the snow-covered hills.
All this talk about Air has gotten me excited. I’ve followed all the comments that people have left, but I haven’t been able to find it. Can anyone tell me where I can find the episodes?
It sounds good…Thank you
One of the many fine starting locations would be animesuki.com. You need to have the bittorrent tool installed onto your webbrowser and have an ISP that doesn’t block torrents.
If you need more explicit instructions, feel free to email me.
Cool, I’m downloading it right now. Thank you very much…Now I’m going to get addicted like everyone else…=)
Hmm… death by kindness… now THATS something I haven’t heard of before lol. I suppose you are right. We really aren’t in any position to advise Fred like some of us have been in the past… 3 weeks of blogging? Unless of course, you’re one of those people he keeps on his Messaging lists and stuff. Unless he has, we’re probably just text behind a glass screen with an apple logo :-p
Oh yeah, someone just sent me “Nanaca Crash”. Too freakin addictive… Lost soo much time on that thing. But the pressures of making me finish somethin on time actually made me do something decent. Vexx, you’re a freakin genius.
No special connection and I don’t want one.
Fred needs his force fields secure to do his work.
Just some speculation and analysis of the black box we call Fred
:)
I don’t bother trying to download anime’s anymore. My poor Cellphone can’t handle big downloads…it takes me a few hours just to dl a 5meg song…
Thank you, Fred, for yet another lovely strip. I got the definite impression that Ping would like to be a real girl, the poor thing — that glare of hers was positively withering. Just don’t turn her into another Data, k?
I also liked the way you kept the food and dishes on the table consistent from panel to panel. Your attention to detail is truly impressive.
Btw, Piro’s ‘Eh? What?’ expression is absolutely bloody priceless. XD I’m tempted to hang onto that one for future giggles.
(Just so you know, the preview for AIR 9 is a bit of a spoiler. :P)
Somehow you just knew things had to go tragic in the past for “present day” Air to even happen….
ep 8 was very entertaining and managed to convey a lot of the personality of the characters with the minimal time given. I’ll say it … the episodes are too short.
My only complaint is about the notes …. Buddhism does not really speak of gender … the note makers have confused parochially added doctrine and local prejudices with underlying tenets (just like so many other religions… guh…)
“I’ll say it … the episodes are too short.”
I too found myself surprised to see the ending credits for the latest episode appear so soon…
The cliff-hangers are allmost killing me/driving me slowly insane… So they do their jobs well then I feel… ^-^
GAH!! WHY DIDN’T I GET INTO IT AFTER THE WHOLE THING WAS RELEASED!!!
Ohh well…
This actually has to do with last Friday’s posting (”Assimilated”), in which you listed some of your favorite music genres. Got a couple of url’s for you: WREK (www.wrek.org) is a college station (91.1-FM) on the campus of Georgia Tech, located in Atlanta. They play a mixed bag (From their website: “WREK has specialty shows focusing on ska, talk radio, new wave, classic rock, reggae, classical, Tech Sports, hip-hop, blues, world musics, experimental, electronic, heavy metal, industrial, radio drama, soul, funk and quite a few different types of jazz.” They also play college music.). The other url is http://www.wrekage.org, the website for WREKage, their heavy metal program that airs from 10:00 PM Friday nights through 6:00 AM Saturday mornings. It plays mostly death & thrash, but there’s a lot of the Progressive stuff too. (BTW: It’s the jazz and metal that I listen to, mostly. Speaking of mixed bags . . . ). Why am I telling you about a station 100’s of miles from where you live? 1: It offers streaming audio (narrowband and broadband) through its website (see above url). 2: It archives all of its programming (which airs 24/7) from the previous 7 days. That’s up to 168 hours before you land on their page. Just thought I’d give you and your readers a heads-up.
Just finished watching the episode 13 of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (I assume the season wrapup and closer). Doesn’t look like more to come unless they come up with a follow-up adventure. I do like the way most of these series actually *finish* a story in case there’s no follow-on seasons.
I enjoyed the series - not particularly original but good production values and character development. Watching “insane mad sorceror” over-the-top bits is somewhat embarrassing…. but the rest of the characters were great — everyone had interesting little quirks.
I’d recommend it as an introductory series to show someone that anime is *not* endless “pokemon-stupid”. I am kind of curious as to what age group this show is targeted at… I mean in addition to cuteness, it has physical torture, mental abuse, a flamboyant fox-girl, and a terminally embarrassed ferret.
Apologies.. just couldn’t think of anywhere else to post this… and I blame Fred for my descent into anime/manga madness anyway
Hmm… I’ve calmed down now… Mostly at least…
ummm… I just read Fred’s rant about anime he likes and what his answer to the question ‘What is your favourite anime movie?’
My answer to this for quite a bit now has been ‘Macross Plus’ but… Now I’m not too sure… I guess it’s a similar situation to Fred, as it depends a bit on when you ask/what side of me you ask…
It’s just got me thinking… Do I really have a favourite overall…?
Answer: Hell no…
I like diferent movies for diferent things, and usually those things just don’t compare… (just trying to think of ways of comparing Vampire Hunter D with Card Captor Sakura makes my brain hurt…)
You just can’t do it… yes, I know, a rather… odd choice… but those are also two of my favourite anime… so, I think I can sympathise with Fred on that one! ^-^
Can’t wait to see the Air movie! I’m sure that’s going to shoot to the top of a list or two in my mind… Or creat a whole new one..
Well… TTFN!
“GAH!! WHY DIDN’T I GET INTO IT AFTER THE WHOLE THING WAS RELEASED!!!”
Thats not exactly a good thing either… When I got into Kanon, my grades dropped horrendously, because I couldn’t stop watching it. At least this way, I can pace myself and not use so much time at watching the beautiful animation…storyline… great… now I’m thinkin about it again… *starts editting more comics*
I’m actually (torturously) downloading Kanon via sporadic torrent now since I must admit not having seen it…. hopefully that will be corrected sometime this week… but at the small number of seeds available … it may be an episode or two a week.
I can’t survive with just one bittorrent, does anyone know any other good bittorrent clients besides azureus? Any help is much appreciated.
I use the Bit Torrent client written by the originator (Bram Cohen) at:
http://bittorrent.com/
Windows, Mac, and Linux versions…
The docs claim that azureus (java based client) permits multiple torrent feeds but YMMV (I haven’t tested it).
The Bram Cohen one plugs into your browser and I run 3-5 at a time. Its begware… no cost to run but he asks for donations.
I use the Bit Torrent too! I find it allright actually!
I use bittorrent but somehow came up with an experimental version. But still it works fine. I’m trying to get Mahoraba right now, but it said 32 hours for episode one… dang… Well, plenty of time over spring break *next week! woot!* But vexx? The Kanon series is definitely worth those weeks of downloading lol. I’m rewatching it as I type… *even though I should be doing Chemistry… again…*
I was using Bit Torrent, but recently switched to Bit Tornado because one website was blocking compleely Bit Torrent for some reason, and Bit Tornado was one of them that they recomended…
And, yes… I see your point, kane… I did end up spending too much time in one go on Kanon when I first got into it too… Luckily, I didn’t really have any major deadlines to deal with at the time, but still…
not to interrupt the discussion TOO much, but… its not really kosher for me to have discussions about how to get fansubs and whatnot on my websites - sort of an unwritten rule in the subbing communities (don’t ask where to get these series, don’t ask how to download fansubs, etc)
I didn’t want to say anything because i have a very casual view of this site (its a personal blog, thats all) but if y’all could just email each other privately about what to do when someone asks? I’d appreciate it. There are plenty of other forums to get information about this stuff, and it’s not really that hard if you follow a proffered link or two.
thanks
aye, aye, cap’n… (I was wondering when you’d “ahem”).
Basic comments about bit torrent technology I would assume are okay because it is a legitimate tool used in the tech community (for linux distributions, for example). Otherwise, PM/email it is…
You know, I was really impressed when I went to get Fedora Core 3 and realised I could use BitTorrent. It’s a pity more companies don’t realise how useful a tool it is.
oh, sorry fred, next time I’ll just pm or e-mail asking about them.
“Another ’sleeper’ for me was Scrapped Princess. OMG, i fell in love with that show.”
Mwahahahahaha. We got him!
Who is ‘we’? Just the steadily growing number of Scrapped Princess fans
. I can’t really say what is my favourite series overall, but this is one of my favourite series, now everyone who hasn’t seen it yet must immediately go see it[/hypnovision]
^____^ yay for scrapped princess!! shannon-nii wa daisuki desu yo~!
