strike one against safari

Sunday, February 6th, 2005

grrr. I just noticed one thing that i really dont like about safari, and it happened when i was posting todays rant over on MT. It would not allow me to enter japanese text into the rant. It converted the kanji to question marks. I was puzzled by this because i just was able to post it in a previous rant… then i realized that i must have used Firefox to post that rant. Sure enough, when trying to enter kanji with safari it converted it to question marks, but when i used firefox it converted things to the proper kanji.

Hmm.

I spent a few moments this morning reviewing some of the excellent advice i got in a blogbit about switching away from Firefox, and re-installed things, wiping out old profiles, etc. Firefox is working faster (but that is because i added a 512 mem chip which has worked wonders for making this powerbook work better) but it still has the two problems that irk me (hanging a bit while accessing bookmarks with kanji in them, and the garbled gif thing) the real kicker is that the ‘download now’ button right on the firefox page itself is garbled!! I can’t help but wonder if its me and my machines, but the fact that ALL of my machines do this… i dunno.

I hate this browser limbo. I dont expect safari to change hardly ever or at all, but damnit i wish i could get past these probs with firefox.

fog lamps for the brain

Saturday, February 5th, 2005

I think i’m doing a little better… at least I hope so. This particular cold really put a drag on my energy level. Yesterday i tried to focus on menial labor, stuff that could be done without having to think too much. I prolly should have just stayed curled up in my chair enjoying that ‘floating through the fog’ feeling, but that’s just not something i’m capable of doing :)

We have to do some apartment shopping today, i’m certainly not looking forward to moving in the next few months -_- It helps that 50% of my life is over at t3h factory, and when we do move not EVERYTHING will be up in the air like it usually is… but moving still sucks.

My friend Abel, who runs Anime Ten (rare jp item / crack dealer :), has zero’d in on Potato plushies… damn him, asking if i want one. Damn him. :P

I’ve really got to get back on track. I was doing pretty good right up to wednesday, but now i feel like i’m totally behind and out of sync on everything. A little coffee and a little determination should do wonders today. What i’d give for fog lamps for my brain.

dead piro day

Thursday, February 3rd, 2005

there just isn’t any fighting it today… ugh. Its kinda weird, i can draw just fine today, but the complexities of working out some baseline storyline elements that have to come out and be handled correctly in the next comic… ya, totally beyond my brain’s ability to work with today. It’s pretty sad when–

uh… ok, that was supposed to be a draft, that i’d finish when i got home. heh. lord, my brain, can’t even work the blogging software tonight. Gonna go curl up in my chair and draw.

digital scribbling

Thursday, February 3rd, 2005

Well, on monday i went ahead and decided that i was going to invest in a new Intuos 3 tablet as well as buy Painter IX (Corel offers a nice package of the two, and they shipped same day - ordered monday, had it wednesday. :). After fiddling around with the trial version for a while (and being impressed with how much better it was than version 8) i decided to take the plunge and upgrade. Now, the Intuos 3 are supposed to have better resolution, sensitivity and feel than the Intuos 2 (it is a newer generation tablet, after all) and i wondered if it would finally be sensitive enough to work with the way i tend to sketch and draw. I could never get the settings quite right on the Intuos2.

The Intuos 3 really is a very pretty tablet - it almost looks like its made of plate glass, not that purple plastic matt finish the intuos2 has. The pen is so much nicer… much more comfortable, at least for me. That alone is enough to make it worth the upgrade. How was it at sketching, at least, for me? Not bad, actually. For the first time i think i feel comfortable sketching on the computer - and that sketch of largo is just in photohshop using a pretty basic brush.

anyways, tons to do today, and i still am not really feeling all that great. Depending on how this afternoon goes, i might adjust the schedule to put out the comic by noon tomorrow rather than 1am tonight - it all depends on how well the scripting goes. Colds suck, they really do.

cha cha guuu…

Tuesday, February 1st, 2005

Ok, there’s no question. I definately feel sick today. Yesterday it was kinda there but not enough to keep me from doing stuff. Today… meh. My head is really foggy. Of course, as is usual with me whenever i do get sick, it’s usually not bad enough to justify “gonna stay home, pull a dead piro day, drink tea with honey and watch Akazukin ChaCha all the way through again”

gosh, that does sound fun tho… sadly, there is no calling in sick when you work for yourself. I did manage to get a few things done this morning, even got started on my next MT rant. The new Kimiko Recycled Heart / Spinning Heart girls t-shirts came in this morning and i got those in the store (trust me, doing something like that was much easier than, say, thinking about story stuffs :P) Now i have no excuse, i have to get cracking on the comic. Must… clear fog… good thing i can draw ok when i’m barely coherent :)
