Hweee… i think i’m tired. I’ve been shorting myself of sleep lately, and on friday it finally sorta caught up with me. I was pretty sleepy when i finished the comic thursday night, and friday was a pretty full day, but by friday night i was as close to being completely useless as it’s possible to be.
I did something last night i haven’t done in ages, i watched a whole bunch of episodes of an anime series in a row. I think i know why i try not to do this much, i think you get saturated with the show when you watch too much of it at once. I’m not sure if this is really a bad thing or not. I watched ep 2 thru 15 of School Rumble, a show that i keep meaning to watch and finally did last night. It’s a good series, and many of the characters really draw you in, but… i’m frustrated with it, i have to admit. I think i understand why people get so on my case about the apparent lack of progress with any of the relationships you see in a series, because i was feeling that way as i dived thru the series.
In fact, i even experienced that change where you start thinking you want to see different things happen than you first wanted at the beginning of the series, and different characters who you never thought you would like suddenly are very appealing. It’s almost a confused feeling you get, really. Tenma has grown annoying to me, as has Harima. Yakumo appeals to me in a mysterious way, and i admit, i’ve grown to be an Eri fan. What’s odd is that i could almost say i’m a a Mikoto fan too… which surprises me.
I have heart, because i know i’m no where near finished with the story, and i hate it when i get like this, wanting to know where things go. I hate it when things draw me in, almost more because i want to know than anything else. Unfortunately, i don’t think i have any more time to do any more marathon watching - we have to move in a week or so, and sarah and i have a lot of packing to do (did i ever mention how much i hate moving?)
I guess i feel sorry for Eri and Mikoto right now. That’s why i try not to watch much anime, i think. I always blame it on no time, but the reason is i do get emotionally commited to what i watch, and that can be a sad experience.
which may explain why i still have not watched Air episode 9. I’m not sure when i will…

Wow, hope that the move isn’t too painful. It seems like you have to keep moving around, which sounds like it isn’t much to your liking. Hope you like your new place and don’t have to move again for a while.
Set aside the time to watch ep. 9 and then I suggest another couple of hours to absorb it in a quiet place. The action within the story is both illuminating and tragic … but I’m still sorting out where its going. I’ll just say it seems to have to do with the consequences of the wish Yukito made at her bedside and some “timeline ripples” … ?a chance to do something differently??
I’ll admit the ending has me a bit confused but I haven’t had time to sit down and rewatch it without interruption.
It also gave me a bit of insight that the initial merging of Buddhism and Shinto may not have been all mochi and tea…

ah.. damn it… I knew that time out would be bad. “gomen nasai” …. “to gomen nasai” again.
If someone could delete one of the posts and this one I’d be appreciative.
I do a few Marathon Anime watching from time to time.
& i know what you mean with the whole getting drawn into it. Mahoraba has done it for me, i can’t stop thinking about the characters & there life’s. ^^;;
Could someone recomend some more anime to me, that are like Air and Mahoraba… I’ve watched Kanon, and can’t seem to find any more of Love Hina…
I would brows Otaku World, but I don’t think they’ve updated their anime/manga listings for a bit…
Maybe I shoud just try picking some anime at random and see what it’s about…
That’s good Fred, because if it does for you what it does for me, then you will be wanting to draw for the rest of the day. In which case, will make every one around here feel alittle more better about you and you about youself.
But on the tired thing, that sucks. I no, it’s been the same way for me for the past two weeks.
Good luck Fred
I liked Ai Yori Aoshi … its never really in doubt who the guy ends up with but the character studies are very good and there’s some real tension in the family acceptance issues.
There are two seasons, the second being the “Enishi” series. For the sake of all thats holy.. do not ruin your sanity with the English dub — it is atrocious. The original voice acting is excellent and emotive … the english version has you wanting to kill them all in about two minutes.
Martian Successor Nadesico is also pretty interesting, much more complex - managing to combine tragedy and humor in an odd way. It has some mecha and action elements but the core of the story concerns a pilot who really wants to be a cook and all the women onboard the starship competing for his attention. There’s a lot of self-referential parody of “harem anime” which adds to the fun.
You must download and watch School Rumble Ep. 16. Trust me on this, it’s probably the best ep in the whole series. “Sadoubu dakara ne” never meant more to me in my life.
SR is proof that you can always change the main focus of your story if parts of it just don’t work, and you can get away with it. 124 chapters and 8 books can’t be wrong. Will the Flags or the Rice Balls win out? Who knows!
Oh, ‘Air’ ep 10 is out now, too. So if you really wanted to paralyze yourself, the means are now readily available. =^^= Perhaps there should be a waiting period for certain ‘dangerous’ forms of anime…
Anime Recommendations… that’s tough. Here are a few that run the gamut– all drama.
“Kimi Ga Nozumo Eien” has a romantic drama angle, or should I say triangle? (That one may be tough to find.)
“Da Capo” was okay, as far as animes based on dating sims go… although it had some odd vibes in it. Sort of a pale comparison to Kanon or Air IMO, butit’s like Methodone for that Heroin.
“MyHime (or MaiHime)” has action, drama, romance, death, and destruction. Lots of death and destruction. 21 out of 26 have been subbed so far, and every time you think you know what’s next, they prove you so freaking wrong… it’s just great.
“Twin Spica” was a great little series that was just filled with 20 eps of sad dramatic awesomeness. One of the worst closing credit songs ever fails to ruin it.
“Planetes” starts slow, but finishes strong. The manga and the series are available in the US now. Some people didn’t like the art, but the story is good and the art grows on you. Check out the manga first and see if you want to invest in the anime.
“Maria-Sama Ga Miteru…” I don’t know *what* to make out of that series, but it’s a cult hit in Japan. It’s one of those things that make you go “hunh?” The books are aimed at teenage girls, the anime at otakus. Go figure.
“Aishiteru Ze Baby” was pretty good in spite of bad animation and (at times) bad voice-acting. Good melodrama, though.
And naturally, I’ll keep pimping “Beck” because it is teh awesomeness.
This idea came to me while thrashing about in the forums — reposting it here. It concerns the never-ending energy wasted on those damned links on the front page of megatokyo.com
I recommend you make the character page be a link to episode 1.
What? Its so French!
I recommend you make the story page be a link to episode 1.
Thanks Rich, I’ll have a look out for some of those!
But, I may have a problem finding some of them…
I might only be able to get the Manga to “Planetes” in the end, cause that chances are it wont gt released in England…
I’ll have to import it and switch what region my laptop’s set at or something… That is, if I get it…
Again, thanks!
S-saturation? What saturation? (I watched episode after episode of Naruto, unable to stop until I got to a break in the string of cliffhangers… then started up again later.)
I suppose I have to agree that things change in anime, and suddenly one can like the anime for an entirely different reason. Like in Naruto– I used to like Sasuke and loathe Sakura, but now it’s done a complete 180. (I find it amusing how serious we take anime.)
*Shrug* Just do what you need to do. If that means tearing yourself away from anime for a while, that’s fine. But, um. Sleep, k?
Happy moving!
hey…uh..fred im alittle new at online talking and commenting sorta thing…yea anyways i think its perfectly fine to get wraped up in the feelings that the anime(depends on what your going thru)is giving you because its
1:good therapy as you see two beshonen(most of the time anyway)beat each other mercillesly with str & spd that is not really allowed in the real world(if thats what you think)
2:less expensive for the all around good hard day of work and no dealing with people having to be paid to care.
by the way i hate moving too i’ve moved about 6-7 times and its sucks.i feel your pain.*sigh* any way at least you would not have to move the dresser this time right=^-^=.anyway i guess that is ok for the first post of an otherwise insignificant(|/\|!7|-|0|_|7 4 gu|\| 4|\|yw4y)post.(and maybe you posted that message a long time ago and im just late in getting here, but its good i got to at least let you see that i’m here,1473r.)

Most of the titles I listed are available as fansubs which are readily available via the internet. This means that they haven’t been licensed in the US or EU (usually) yet. Not all anime gets licensed, simply because companies are afraid of taking risks on series that may or may not sell. Stuff like ‘Chobits’ or ‘Love Hina’ sells no matter what, but stuff like ‘Aishiteru Ze Baby’ or ‘Twin Spica’ isn’t a guarantee to sell at all over here, so companies don’t license it. Doesn’t mean they aren’t fun to watch, though.
Yea I sometimes go on those anime binges as well. I kind of regret watching so much of Mai Hime. I sat there and watched 9 episodes straight. I had to take a break. Much like you Fred, I have yet to see episodes 8 and 9 of air. I’m actaully kind of scared of what may happen. I’ll watch it, its all just a matter of when.

Dude, you seem to move a lot. Whats the deal?
@Lotharjade
Like i need to explain my why or when i move to YOU or anyone else. Jezus, what is with you people?
I moved three times in three years right after coming back to michigan. We’ve been where we are now for over 3 years. So sorry that that is considered a LOT.
(won’t say anything more about my move from here on out.)
Hmmm, maybe its that Ive read the comics so fast. Didn’t mean to be intrusive. It just seemed like you have moved three times in the last two years from my perspective. Apparently my perspective is whacked. Oh well.

Just the joys of rental living, Loth… and looking for that optimum location.
For the “Air junkies”, Koi released ep. 10 yesterday, I just finished acquiring it. Looks like we get a bit of emotional breather (just maybe), but I haven’t watched it yet and don’t intend to til lunchtime tomorrow.

sorry bout the multiple post. problems posting.
hmmm.. the multiple post burps seems to happening quite often… not sure what to suggest since any suggestion would require posting accounts like a regular forum to permit people to delete their posting clones. I can think of some filtering script that would auto-zap any incoming posts that substantially match existing posts but that would require time and pain.
Hope the move goes well …pbfftt, no move goes well… just stock up on the sake so you won’t care

Don’t expect an emotional letup for “Air” ep. 10. Watched it a little while ago, and no, there isn’t much letup.
Problem is when hitting post or preview apparently the post gets posted to thread, but it hangs and then gives an error message that it couldn’t connect to site and move on. Seems server or settings related. Otherwise, this forum is set up in a pretty cool design, although an edit button would be nice so we could edit or delete. Probably not a top priority though with Fred’s Makato problems.
Hmm… even though Makoto is the main server, shouldn’t Ayu and Nayuki be able to handle it?
One problem about anime marathons is the time wasted. Especially if it’s a heck of a long series like Rurouni Kenshin or Naruto…man. Now in the case of shorter series like Azumanga Daioh or Comic Party, it at least leaves you with time to spare…hopefully. So in other words…I know what you mean. Oh, and good luck with your move Fred.

I didn’t think ep.10 or Air was as emotional as some of the previous ones. I like the way it gave a different perspective on events though… enjoyed it a lot.
Been very tempted to get MaiHime but after downloading and watching Chobits, Air, Scrubs, Lost and Alias I don’t exactly have much spare time left!!
@loth
sorry for snapping at you like that. I’ve been getting the “you sure move a lot” and “you sure get sick a lot” so much it gets irritating sometimes. I actually get sick less than most people, but because they can read all the instances of it on the website they come to conclusions like it happens a LOT.
Same with the moving - when i moved back to michigan, i moved quickly so the place i ended up in wasn’t that great, and it took two more moves to get into the place we are now which has been fine. This move is to get closer to the factory and a number of other reasons. That’s the nature of apartment living - you move more than people who own houses.
gonna post a blog in a bit. Feeling pretty bleah today, and i can’t figure out why. I guess i just feel stressed.
all i have to say if keep up the cool sketches and enjoy life thats all coz if i keep typing ill be here all day
Erm, I think editing a blogger like this one to be capable of editing ones posts would be pretty hard to configure. I dunno, I’ve never had a problem and I browse on various computers on various browsers.
Maybe just press post once and then don’t fiddle with it for a while, close the window and come back.
That’s what I do with any kind of blogger or forum that plays up.
School rumble looked pretty good. I may look out for that.
‘”Aishiteru Ze Baby” was pretty good in spite of bad animation and (at times) bad voice-acting. Good melodrama, though.’
Yeah, I loved ‘Aishiteru Ze Baby’. It
Well… thanks to Dom I’m now on the lookout for Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan. Looks like the DVD (region 2???) is due out 3/25 in Japan but I’m still a beginner at teasing out the language. No luck finding other materials so far (emailed leads would be nice). The usual bookstores don’t seem to know about it but I’m heading over to our local Kinokuniya bookshop later this week (in Uwajimaya grocery store).
I would have thought that this upcoming move would have more to do with preventing “crazed fanboys” from figuring out where you live…
Bleh.. watched ep 10 of Air … tragic because of the different perspectives — as usual I got to think about the ending … not sure what it really means for Misuzu.
Had to watch eps 4-6 of Mahoraba after it … good lord that is a happily demented show… art student surrounded by happy psychotics in a boarding house. Its kind of impressive they were able to make the characters interesting and sympathetic …
Its like someone took Maison Ikkoku and blended it with the Addam’s Family — but with Way Cuter art.
@vexx: Dokuro-chan is available from l33t-raws (www2.l33t-raws.org) if you’re looking for a BT grab. I downloaded it late last night; gonna watch it tonight. I understand the director also directed Hale nochi Guu, so it should be one heck of a ride.
Thanks for the tip…
Bit of a diversion since I’m still collecting the last few Kanon episodes (which has gotten really strange in the Ball episode…).
Yeah, Kanon does get a little weird but very good. I found the animation, voices and music choices to be excellent throughout the whole series and was very moved at the last few episodes.
Anyone if you can buy Kanon on DVD? Must have english subs as I’m not very good at foreign languages so taking a long time to learn japanese.
Bah, all of you…being in the middle of the Pacific right now, I have trouble downloading the Fredart front page, much less sucking down an episode of Air.
At least I remembered to grab ep.9 before we left…
At least I’ve still got a bunch of DVDs here that I’ve had for months but never got around to watching. That ought to help pass the time until we pull in…then I’ll have three or four episodes of Air to catch up on all at once.
(side-note: I seriously hope this screwy ship connection doesn’t cause this post to show up a dozen times or anything…)
Fred! You are going to Anime Central 2005, correct? I might be going and look forward to trying to meet you, tho I doubt I’ll be very successful. I love Miho’s dress in the last couple of comic pages! So cool!
Keep it up! ^_^
If you’re going to be stuck for months somewhere out of decent net connect, email me your address via the handy link and I’ll send you some CD burns of Air and a few other .avi files I’m slurping as the clumps build up… assuming the “censors” don’t automatically crush incoming CDs .
Bleh… double post hell — previous offer was meant for Fern.
