uhyuuu… what a week. I don’t know why, but i felt really reclusive for a few days. I’m not sure what really causes it, but there are times when i don’t want to put my thoughts online, or communicate ideas and whatnot.

Actually, that’s not it. Its more of wanting to just let the comic talk for me sometimes. Thats the nice thing about having a webcomic… even if i can’t manage to get thoughts and blog entries and rants up anywhere near as much as i would like to, the main way i talk to people is through the comic. I think it is doing a pretty decent job of that these days.

Just kinda quietly busy today, so pardon the seemingly pointless blogbit. Moving has this way of throwing your life up in the air that kinda sucks but in other ways is kinda refreshing. Looking forward to it all settling down.

Randomness… really wish i could find a copy of Imperative Reaction - Redemption or Droom - 128 1/2 days around here locally. Too bad I-tunes doesn’t have everything. No, wait, that’s a good thing. No idea why im on such an industrial kick right now. Tune that i connected with for the Miho drawing in the two recent comics is the current pirotune:

That’s when we remember Goethe saying: People should talk less and draw more.

    Kind of the ultimate truth.

  2. Matt says:

Well, you gotta admit that Miho turned out really great in those comics tho. And yes it’s good to talk less and draw more….keep it it up Fred. ^_^

I know what you mean about moving…I’m actually looking forward to my next move though. We’re finally getting to build our house, so right now we’re in the planning stages of where to put everything. Looks like I’m finally going to have some space for my projects, space to draw and some office space to myself! Great series of comics lately too…I can’t wait for what comes next. ^_^

Man…this thing keeps double posting….oh well… I’m in the process of moving too so i can relate to you guys. so…good luck on your moving!

All this talk about moving…I don’t have to worry about it much; my ‘home’ (term used *very* lightly) does the moving for me…at 30+ knots, at that. Would be cool, ‘cept for the fact that it has a tendancy to spend months at a time floating in the middle of the most miserable body of water on the face of the planet.

@vexx (from last post): I appreciate the offer, but I’ve got a handy minion…err…*roommate* that I intend to have do the dirty work for me. :D

I was really surprised to see her “erololi” look!! She’s not the type to care at all what people think (or at least, that’s what has been projected through the comic) and watching her go to erololi as opposed to kurololi or amaloli styles…well, if thought of in that regard, it _does_ make sense, as the kuros and amas are pretty tightly knit and tend to shun, whereas Miho, as cold as she might be, does grab at friendship just a little. That, and she’s a gamer with otaku-level skill. She’s enjoying this style for herself, not trying to impress other adopters of the same/similar style. But I am rambling…hope you are well, and hope to see you on the circuit this year :) –LGoodnight

Miho’s favorite games are mindgames — “ero” is that sort of game . My pet silly theory (not really believed) is that Miho is a Dark Magical Girl — all about the love but in twisted way.

Saw this “rumor” about Air that should have a few folks drooling (lifted off the new site for Koi distributions): “Just a small heads-up for all you Airheads. [Koi] has mentioned to me that there is a good chance of HDTV (High Definition Television) releases of AIR coming in the near future. High-definition TV is a new television display standard that doubles the 525 lines per picture to 1050 lines and increases the screen aspect ratio from 12:9 to 16:9.”

No info about release times but we’ll assume its a few months after the end of the series.

ahem … just watched a raw untranslated version of “Beatdown Angel”. … ….
Only the Japanese could integrated “cute” with “gross” so well … I only understood about half the dialog so I await some expertise from our fansub community as I do not *ever* suspect this will be released Stateside…

I moved 4 times last year, so I know it can be rough, but it’s exciting too, isn’t it? New sights, new sites, and new routines… having your life shaken up a bit isn’t so bad, sometimes. : )

Anyway, good luck at the new place! Fight-O!

  12. Ipwnzj00 says:

I’ve never had to move, but I know it must be stressful. I apologize for all the idiots who attacked you with ‘you haven’t updated for 2 weeks argh!’ e-mails. Some fans just don’t understand that you are a human with a life away from Megatokyo. :/

I’ll be seeing you at acen, so watch out, and good luck with moving! :D

I dunno… Hale nochi Guu got licensed for US release somewhat recently. I wouldn’t count this one out just yet.

Great rant on the MT page :)
Next time go one better and just quote Stitch:
    “eh”

Says all there needs to be said.

Somebody lend me Excaliborg so I can go after the helpful person that diverted me from Kanon with Beatdown Angel … its hilarious, sexy, and disturbingly gross — and I’m pretty confident it’ll never be licensed in the Western Hemisphere I don’t dare show this to any of my “mundane” friends.

  15. vexx says:

Hmmm… did the forum server just crash?

Wait.. forget I said that… watch anime and work on the comic… whatever you do, do not look at the forum server.

  16. Fern says:

No, the forum server did NOT crash. It’s just taking a nap. These aren’t the droids you’re…oops, wrong mind trick.

    Move along…move along.

  17. WhiteKnight says:

Darn, after tracking down samples of Holy I went to Amazon and ordered the CD. I just cam in from MA traing and saw the latest rant, personally I’d much rather have the strip coming out regularly than to get a new rant. I can’t figure people out.I think they need to be beaten with Excaliborg myself. I’m glad this is here, it allows me to indulge my urge to post stuff.

  18. Two-Bit says:

Read your “mini rant” on the front page” and thought I’d give some ‘encouraging words’.

While I might not know exactly what it’s like to have all the kinds of pressure to do a comic like you do, I do know this. Sometimes it’s better to take a week off and put up with the bitching and moaning than to burn out and be out of commission for a month.

Anyhow, I can promise that the grand majority of MT fans would gladly let you rest for a while. We’re not all a bunch of newbish idiots that want their web-comic fix, we know that you’re a human being and that like anyone else you need to catch your breath once in a great while.

Oh, and if this seems way off subject… blame the late night-ness, the heavy work load I got two hours ago, and the Dr Pepper.

Ugh, moving. Haaate it. I always wind up with a box or 5 that I haven’t opened since the last time I moved. When I was in college, a few times that box had food in it. (Cake from hell, I’m looking at you. Who knew you could thrive in that Tupperware biodome?)

Anyway, I’m waiting to hear from the JET people in Japan– if I get the job, I gotta move over there sometime in July. The challenge of moving to a foreign country to live for a year or two without being able to take so much of the crap I depend on is sort of intimidating. Ok, to be honest, it fills me with a vague sense of dread, but I somehow believe that doing without most of the crap I depend on daily will make me a Better Person. Yeah… I know. It’s a crock. But I’m hoping the culture shock will keep me distracted long enough not to notice.

  20. Rhandir says:

    Hi Fred.
I read your rant from yesterday, and I have a lot of sympathy for your point of view. I think what you are doing with the storytelling and art of Megatokyo are really important, and it really annoys me that people (fans?) fail to treat you like a real human being.

I’ve really thought about this for quite a while, and I am kind of bothered that the relationship between fan and author is so distorted. Is this the true nature of the relationship between artist and audience? Endless demands for more art? Say it isn’t so! These people are confusing familiarity with your work and familiarity with _you_. [1] Heck, it’s worse than that; they probably wouldn’t have the guts to hector their friends to do stuff like that in real life.

You run the most open set of sites for communicating with your audience that I have ever seen from any author. Email, blogbits, forums, rants, RSS feeds, progress bars, and not only one, but two websites! For the (large) size of your audience, that is really impressive. By contrast, Niel Gaiman only blogs (commenting not available; strictly unidirectional) and answers email. Barbara Hambly doesn’t even use the ‘net; she has a friend summmarize her email, and sends back a “monthly update” of what’s going on. Obviously, I think people should be more greatful.

Anyway, keep up the good work. Oh, and maybe check out the NWL distribution license. (No Whining License: “You may use this… …provided you agree: not to whine about this product…” From: http://lkml.org/lkml/2003/12/14/47/

    Peace,
    Rhandir

    Dear Fred,
Thanks for referring to Kanon repeatedly … I’ve finally watched the whole thing and though I feel like the last two episodes were rushed (seems to be a theme in anime), it was an emotionally compelling and fascinating viewing.
It seems to be a running bit in these sorts of stories to start off grounded in reality and then spin off into surrealism. The Makoto and Ayu arcs were really surprising and Nayuki, well, nothing like mixing a happy ending with the shards of tragedy all around…

Ah well.. lunch over back to work. I look forward to Warmth with anticipation and fear now ;)

I wasn’t going to post this because I thought it sounded a bit fan girlish but after I read what’s been happening over the past few days I thought I would anyway :)
You have been a great inspiration for me. If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be able to draw anime at all. I have been gradually teaching myself, using your art as reference, so that one day I can accomplish art to a standard somewhere near yours.

Today I also did my very first cg, for my first time ever using Photoshop. I decided to dedicate the picture to you :) it has a message for you on it too!

Anyway, anyone who doesn’t understand the pressures you go through are idiots and aren’t worth your time. You are probably the most consistent web comic I know anyway! Almost all web comic peop

    Fred,

If you haven’t seen this, you should take a look: its a fairly amazing bit of CG of your now infamous Miho-phonechatting frame. Most of the forum just kind of got quiet over it.
