grr

Ugh. My writing seems to be tripping over itself today. I suppose it’s just a function of too many things to do today. Some pretty decent knews on how MT book 3 has been doing - its first week it was at #3 on bookscan, then it was at #4, and #4 again. So, three weeks in the top five, i’m not gonna complain. I was still outselling Sin City, which really just seems kinda weird to me… but that’s probably that vague area between Manga and the more american comic styles. Oh well, the movie isn’t out yet, either :)

Gonna keep the blog short today because, well, i have got to get cracking on wednesday’s comic. It’s gonna be a complicated one, and i still don’t have it nailed down yet.

hahaha, as soon as i said that, i got this week’s Bookscan numbers. MT vol 3 dropped to #10 and Sin City sauntered up to #3. hehehe. That feels more appropriate.

Now i just need to make a movie…

Good thing you said that here. If the phrase “Now i just need to make a movie…” came out of you anywhere near the MT forums we wouldn’t be able to contain the fans. :P
And hey, that’s four weeks in the top 10.

wow hey, top 5 is good, and so is top 10 ^^ I’m having fights with keenspace, and with the first few pages of my comic lookin so much like crap, I doubt i’d ever come close to top 10. :P You never answered my question:
what day are you going to be at anime central??

You might be selling even better if B&N would keep you in stock … I’ve been giving my local one a hard time — not just for lack of Megatokyo (which they had, sold, and didn’t restock) but for their absymal ability to keep sequences of manga in stock. You got to figure people in a book store are looking for books ONE->Five/10ish … after that they’re probably ordering online, special or elsewhere…. so I go in looking for, say, Trigun — I find books 2,3,5,7, 10. I point it out.. few days later… no change… next week …. books 2,3,5,10,12…
I point out they’d move more if they stocked at least a sequence and always books 1-3 at least to get people hooked. cowfaces all around…

Ah well.. at this point, I just go there for Starbucks and prowling the bargain bin. Manga purchasing is mostly online. But you have to factor bookstore stupidity in…

Argle!! Just got Ai Yori Aoshi book 8 in (Tokyopop english sub) Chock full of Chika goodness (looks like Fumizuki is aging her … a gangly teen now). Its interesting to compare the anime series (which I think I own the totality of) and the manga translation as it putters onto the market. Despite daily practice with the character set -kanas still lagging… mostly my ear has gotten pretty good at understanding more even if I can’t speak it — I class my self as a two year old in Nihongo so far. Oops, long rambling post, sorry. Thanks for the small “ahem” in the forums.

I have to agree with vexx in the sence of “book store stupidity”… My nearest comic shop seems to have similar problems…
(I wanna get X/1999, but the earliest volume they got is 2, then it strts jumping after vol 6 what they got… I refuse to start a series at vol 2…)

    Random info:
Mahoraba ep 8 - Heartful Days is available. I’m enjoying this series more and more.
Synopsis: imagine Maison Ikkoku updated with a big swirl of the Addam’s Family and hyper-kawaii.
And, and just about *everyone* except the hero is completely and happily nuts.

Hey, I’m a glass is half full kinda girl, and being in top 10 for four weeks isn’t bad at all. Uh… I realize you have no idea who I am, but that’s not important. Just a devoted MT fangirl who’s deciding to make her voice known among many. Besides, MT rules! I’m enjoying the character development and artwork. As a hobby writer myself, I find that the amount of success you’ve had these past few years with MT is amazing.

I’m very lucky to have a great nerd supply store–err, comic shop– that pays attention to manga buyers. If there’s a series I’m interested in, they can get it for me. Downside is that I have to wait a week or two, but upside is that the money stays local. They also have a pretty impressive collection of titles now as well. (That’s how I found out about “Lament of the Lamb.” Just checked out volume one of that. Creepy.)

He and his wife also read a lot of the titles they buy so they know something about the series the stock, so they’ll tell me if I’m going to like/not like a particular series, based on the stuff I usually get there. Although considering I’m a giant black hole of manga consumption, there isn’t much I won’t try.

But they got me started on “Iron Wok Jan,” for which I am eternally grateful. That’s some seriously fun stuff.

And yeah, I bought MT3 there, too. They keep plenty of copies in stock. ^^b

Just saw the first episode of Tsukuyomi_Moon_Phase … The content itself is very nice, interesting, even beautiful…. at least for now it seems to have NO connection with the happy silly intro and credits.. How odd…
hooked again.. must see the rest of it.

Mahoraba ep 8 was nice… sometimes I think the main thing I like about these series is you actually see story progession unlike the “neverending” series on American tv.

I consider myself kinda lucky, in that I’ve got a Borders (which, incidentally, always seems to have MT in stock :D ), an Asahiya bookstore, and a Kinokuniya all within a relatively short distance from my apartment (though, being in LA, the Kinokuniya is pushing it). Thus, I typically don’t have too much of an issue acquiring most recent manga.

That being said, I usually order stuff online, because I can typically get the newest stuff faster that way — Asahiya doesn’t seem to get new manga until about 2-3 weeks after it is released in Japan.

    @vexx
Yeah… my first reaction to Moon Phase was along the lines of “Ooh, great music and dark tone” followed quickly by “WTF?”

I’m not particularly fond of the slapstick humor that gets tossed into it, but the music is great and I’m enjoying the characters and plot so far (episode 14 was recently made available).

bleh.. sorry double post (POSTDATA burp) and then this “gomen nasai” post… aieee.

  14. romstop says:

    OK a “double post”… 3 hours apart? I don’t see how that’s even possible…

  15. Dorsk says:

Maybe blogging software is on a campaign of confusion and vindictiveness? :oP

  16. vexx says:

“double post” was caused because this idiot (me) had about 10 windows open doing abour four things and power keyed a “POSTDATA” error message by accident - resending the post I’d sent a few hours earlier.

I’m double sympathizing with Fred this week. We’re refinancing the house and have to have it appraised. Given that every member of my family suffers from packrat-itis, the house looks like a large walk in closet thats recently experienced a windstorm. So we might as well be moving in for the next two weeks while we frantically sort, organize, throw out (lots of throw out), and try to execute some exterior cleanup (gutters, crap I’ve been needing to have carted off, etc).

That’s so awesome Fred. All those weeks in the top five. I’m so glad. I have yet to purchase the book, but will soon, along with the other two. Can’t wait til book four, and can’t wait to see Wednesday’s comic either. Well, keep up the great work, and congratulations on your book’s success! :D
