packin’ heat

The most amusing thing about my last blog is how quickly not only Sin City volume 1 ended up trouncing me, but all four volumes ended up topping MT :P I suppose it’s nothing to be ashamed of - MT rolled in at #10 with Sin City 1- 4 taking 4 spots over the #1, 3, 6 and 7 spots. I’ll keep my mouth shut from now on :)

Nothing really exciting to report here other than i’m up to my ears in moving and packing. It never fails to surprise me how much work this always is, and how much time it takes. Ugh. Well, it wont get done unless i get back to it.

Well, come on… It’s Sin City. What did you expect? : )

  2. fredrin Says:

i know :) it was kinda like a guy on a bicycle seeing that this big huge truck is behind him going “I’m winning! i’m winning!!” till the truck runs him over. :P Sure, you really were ahead! (for a little while :P)

i so don’t want to see the movie (i have a inherent contempt for comic book based movies, it’s kind of hard to explain) but i suppose i should see this one…

  3. Terra Sekora Says:

congrats on #10! Maybe I should check this “Sin City” out…lol
Sorry to repeat myself but plz tell me what day you’re gonna be at Anime Central?

  4. kheryn Says:

ACen thinks Fred’s going to be there. (He’s listed as a guest on the site.)

I’m going to have to miss Fred (and crew)’s appearance this year, though. I really enjoyed Fred’s MT panel last year. And as scary stalkerish as this sounds, I’ve seen Fred at every ACen he’s been at (that I know of ;) but I never have anything to say other than the fangirlish “you rock!”… if that =/ Although, I did give Dom a “Con-Dom” sketch one year.

That said, outside of the MT panel, I didn’t feel like the con was particularly enjoyable for me last year, so I’m giving it a rest this year.

Okay, you can be forgiven for disliking movies based on comic books (after all, they do have a pretty poor track record), so by extension, I guess you can be forgiven for not seeing Sin City… … but if you don’t watch Batman Begins (www.batmanbegins.com) this July, I will frickin’ hunt you down! You heard me! This movie will /win the entire universe/! I’m quite certain this get people to take comic book movies seriously for once, much the way Frank Miller’s The Dark Night Returns made people take Batman seriously again.

… … okay, so really, I just want you to love Batman as I do. : )

    Incidentally, did you get my email from a few days ago? ^^;

  6. fredrin Says:

What is it with you Batman Begins people? I will never trust another Batman movie again… there was only one batman movie, and that was the first one. I have little faith that this one will be any good.

I love the batman concept, so i would like to be proved wrong. Every movie since the first has been a travesty tho, so you will have to forgive my lack of faith.

as for being hunt down and killed - ya, Hawk says he’ll do the same thing, so i thing i might not survive the opening of the film :)

  7. Aaron Says:

OK, so you all are talking about Batman? Man, where’s Hawk (http://www.applegeeks.com/) when you need him? ^_^

  8. WhiteKnight Says:

Well, I personally avoid anything that has the slightest whiff of Quentin Tarantino so I won’t be going to see Sin City.

  9. starwed Says:

“there was only one batman movie, and that was the first one.”
    But of course: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060153/

    ^_^

  10. Fern Says:

    Fred, starwed, et al: “Amen!”

They actually played the original Batman on the ship’s site TV the last day of our last underway…I’d almost forgotten how good that movie was, especially in comparison to its sequels.

  11. Cayen Says:

I’ve seen this movie advertised WAY more then it should, I have a feeling this thing’s going to sink faster then the titanic. I’ll probably see it eventually only cause it looks pretty cool with the black and white, with dabs of color here and there. As for batman begins, never heard of it until now. I agree with Fred, there’s only been one batman movie and that was the first one.

  12. Neko Says:

    Michael Keaton is the one & only Batman, come on the guy made it a legend. Compared to hmm.. let me see, Val Kilmer o_O, And this new one! Aiieee have you seen the scare crow d00d from it, he looks crap as hell! ^^;

  13. vexx Says:

    batman, eh? …
I don’t suppose anyone remembers how the “fandom” freaked out badly when it was announced that Keaton would do Batman (he was on a roll from Beetlejuice). In the end, he was superb — tough to do when his antagonist is Jack Nicholson. But he caught the distracted sleep-deprived obsessed brilliance nicely. Some of the stills for this “new” Batman look decent — X-men, Spidey, and Hellboy show that sometimes they get it pretty good if not right. We’ll see.

Currently trying to get up-to-date on the releases of T. Moon Phase and the latest Negima (plod plod plod). I note they changed the intro to T. Moon Phase and dropped that rather bizarre seaturtle bit in an already very bizarre opening credits.

  14. Neko Says:

Speaking of Batman, the first movie is on british t.v… RIGHT NOW!

  15. Neko Says:

Speaking of Batman, the original is on bristish t.v. right now for me to watch. XD

  16. Kelly Says:

Sorry to break the batman talk =P but Air episode 12 is out :)
I’ve been trying to get it for over an hour now. Frigged up torrent o.<

  17. vexx Says:

When people refer to the “first” Batman movie… if they are referring to the Keaton movie, they’ve forgotten the campy 60s version movie with Adam West… sort of a prehistoric Austin Powers take on Batman.

    oooooooh, ep 12.

  18. Terra Sekora Says:

    >_< fuuu answer my question already.
Batman begins? Begins what? Sorry…my dad owns all the old Batman movies…I liked the one with Catwoman and the Peguin…

  19. vexx Says:

Bah… the Koi tracker for ep 12 seems to be fritzed — supposedly a 8/3900 ratio atm. The Prutzer tracker would be nice but it hasn’t been updated to include 12. Back to irc’ing TMP til someone wakes up and realizes it is frobozzed.

  20. Fern Says:

    Yup, tracker fell down and went *boom*…seems to be slowly recovering, but it may be a while until it comes back up to speed. Hopefully before I have to leave for work, anyway; not going to get another chance to download it for about a week. -_-;

  21. vexx Says:

go to the animesuki forums.. they’ve set up a new tracker as the published one is bozo’ed. Check under the Download Help section.
I’m downloading…. apparently having some understanding of Buddhist/Shinto beliefs and philosophy is highly useful to make sense of it. Wai.. this may be very nice.

  22. vexx Says:

(sorry for double post.. no I’m not, there’s not a damn thing I can do to correct it :) )

Wandering through the animesuki forums, the thing that caught my eye was the sheer number of people who would watch Air… then follow it up with Mahoraba as an emotional stabilizer — cause thats what I’ve been doing. ->Air->Mahoraba->TMP->(negima if its out because I’m a glutton for punishment and I keep hoping the parts I like will spread over the rest of the train wreck).

  23. Stop Him Says:

If people refer to the 60’s camp Batman movie as the “first” movie, they may be unaware of the 1949 black and white serial…

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041162/

  24. Ray Kremer Says:

Mask of the Phantasm > all other Batman movies

  25. vexx Says:

I’m just never certain whether to call the “serials” of the 30s-50s movies or not. They were basically the ancestor of television series — every Saturday you’d troop down to the cinema for the next installment of “Rocketman” or “Flash Gordon” …

  26. vexx Says:

Just watched Air ep 12 …. damn it
… going for a walk now.

(damn it damn it damn it)

  27. Stop Him Says:

Sure, serials are movies - they’re on film, and you went to theaters to see them. They’re just not features, which is what most people today think of when they say “movie”.

Used to be, when you went to the theater, there were more things to see than just the feature. Cartoons, newsreels, and serials, among other items…

  28. kane Says:

    Finished watching AIR ep 12…

…gao… *in actuality, out of words*

  29. vexx Says:

Heh… yes, I remember since the first time I went to the theatre was in 1962 — the cartoon and doc-short was an essential preliminary to the main feature.

Yeah, Air ep 12 was exceptionally painful to me. I see where the “happy” is, many things were accomplished that hadn’t happened before, but more work is to be done. Once I’m sure most people have seen the episode I may comment more.
What has me completely bumfuzzled is what are the contents of the next episode? What the hell is that? No spoilers, please.

  30. vexx Says:

Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is becoming one of my quirky favorites… just saw ep 14 and I understand we’re going to get 25-26 episodes of Hazuki cuteness (along with angst, despair, and other gothic hallmarks). At the episode 14 mark, I would pay large amounts to be able to take a cluebat to Kouhei’s head about Hazuki. Please think of everyone’s circulatory systems before you take too many notes about TMP, Fred.
Its very interesting to watch the zany opener credits shift from hypergoofy to more serious themes as the episodes progress forward.
