tired

Well, it took some extra effort (the previous owners had such basic basic cable that the comcast guy had to climb up the pole and remove three traps >_<) we now have digital cable with a DVR and… working internet.

I’m very tired. I’ve been trying to work on the comic today, but things have been taking so long to do that i’m getting a very very late start. The good news is that even tho i’m gonna be late (its a given) i WILL have something else to post :) … at least i hope i will. The sad thing is, all i wanna do right now is sit here and vegetate… can’t let myself do that, too much left to do this week.

Well, vegetation is not always a bad thing… usually when you feel a need for that you need to rest.
Even if there is a lot to do, resting amidst it all isn’t too bad… unless you do it right in the middle of it… like driving…
    That’d be pretty bad.

YES, double post! I forgot to mention, somone mentioned anime Centreal or whatever in one of the comments on your last post… isn’t that the thing Ian (McConville) had to skip out on or whatever?

Comcast is the devil. Screwed me and my family out of $600 and a year of service. DSL/Satellite all the way.

    Sitting around and vegetating…

Seems almost like what I’m doing…

    Life just sucks sometimes…

I don’t think watching that last ep of AIR helped at all…

  5. vexx says:

I’ve tried to listen to the OST soundtrack twice now and I just can’t at the moment… unfortunately the episode evoked some personal memories I’ve never quite gotten over. I do think a couple of the tunes I may add to my list of “songs to play at my wake”.

  6. Revilo says:

any one know if theres a possibility of an Air sequel

  7. fredrin says:

fyi, Episode 13 is DVD only, and of course there will be there AIR movie (which is already in theaters over there)

  8. Lord Merciless says:

You know, sometimes we all need a “mental health day” to just sit around and do nothing for a change ^^

You’ve been amazingly consistent with the updating recently, I personally think you deserve a day off…

Anyway, welcome back to the internet ^^

  9. vexx says:

I’ve seen a few references to the AIR movie… pardon my confusion but what the hell will it be about? Is it a replay of the series squashed into 90 minutes? An extended version of the “old times”? Considering I thought the series allowed insufficient time for several arcs, a movie seems somewhat of an injustice unless it covers new material.

  10. Drango says:

    Air 12 was quite the emotional roller-coaster wasn’t it…
But I’ve currently got the song “It’s Only the Fairytial” stuck in my head from My HiME…

I think I could do with a big dose of happy anime and sugar to level me out…

  11. vexx says:

Okay… d’oh I should take my own advice that google is my friend. The AIR movie appears to focus more precisely on the Yukito-Misuzu story arc. Much as I like the other characters, for storytelling this may help the focus (there does appear to be a lot more depth added from what one can tell from the trailers). It *looks* as though the intensity of the “romance” takes a step up. The artwork also looks to have taken a bump up (new character designer, higher quality bigscreen cinematography).
AIR v2.0 (but seemingly a good thing).

Mahoraba: Heartful Days has been my antidote this week — I wish they could move faster on the fansubs (up to ep 12 on the raws now). I’d recommend Tsukuyomi Moon Phase (all 25 out now on raw, up to 14 on sub) but it looks like this one is going to move into some nasty tragedy for a number of episodes. Don’t get me wrong, I love TMP, its in my top 5 list for series but the prescription was for happyhappy.

  13. kane says:

I’m thinking of switching to another subber on Mahoraba. I got the “Ayu” subs, but they haven’t gotten past the third ep, and Froth Bite seems to have most of it. I just have this thing of having to keep it at the same subber if I want to watch the entire series.

Ah, and thanks for the update on the AIR Movie. I was kinda wondering what that would be about.

*more of a Minagi person, but oh well ^_^;*

  14. Lotharjade says:

By “traps”, what are you referring to???

Also, to the guy who got scammed by comcast, what happened there???

  15. dark morford says:

I think the “traps” mentioned would be some sort of frequency filter placed to limit what channels you can receive. Just pop a notch filter in at the right frequency, and you can’t get channel X anymore.

Haven’t watched AIR 12 yet… I’ve been going with Triad for the subs, and they’ve just released 11 the other day. I’ll probably watch that and episode 12 raw after Anime Club tonight.

Just started watching Mai-HiME recently; the club voted it in, and I volunteered as the provider, so I’ve been sitting in IRC channels downloading away. I’ve only seen the first four eps, but really liking it so far.

  16. vexx says:

I understand liking the continuity of “sub” …
(Fred has already asked we not be too specific in discussing “subbing” … so keep it vague)
I’ve been using Bram’s Bittorrent but I dislike the lack of knobs — I need to be able to restrict the *number* of connections because my ISP’s satellite router has a fixed number of “sessions” it can handle. Bram’s tool swamps the poor router even though it lets me cap the upload rate.
If anyone has a recommendation, please email me.

“trap” is an older term for frequency filters - they can be analog or digital, the purpose being to allow only desired signals through.

  17. kane says:

Don’t know if this will help, because I don’t use Bram’s BT. I wouldn’t know if this has better or worse functionality than Bram’s. But I use one called Bittornado. Has an option that allows you to restrict the amount of uploads and downloads at one time.

Here’s the link. Check it if you want.

  18. scify says:

Well, addressed to Fred — take a break if you need it, seriously. We’d all prefer quality over quantity (though both wouldn’t be bad… I can dream, can’t I?)

And you other guys… what’s a good place to bit torrent AIR from? I can never seem to track these sites down…

  19. vexx says:

Scify.. just emailed you some useful information (assuming your email address is functional :) )

  20. vexx says:

Eeeek! (little school girl.. or little girl squid noise)
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase 15 is seeding … (for those of us who still need subtitles)

  21. scify says:

Thanks Vexx… in the middle of watching #1 right now, subbed by Koi… and I just realised that I forgot to watch the prelude…

  22. vexx says:

Just be wary… AIR starts off kind of light-hearted and then sucks you in and chews you up. I strongly recommend Mahoraba or even the darker Moon Phase for balance . YMMV, of course — but Air really (and I thought it was brilliant at it) stabbed me in the heart.
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase is really impressing me with the layering — people who write it off as fluff are really just seeing the top layer.
I love stuff that requires me to pay attention :)

  26. scify says:

*dies* Oi… I see what you guys mean… this stuff is really heart-string tuggy… I can feel it spilling over into my MUD chars, which isn’t necessarily bad… And I’m only just finishing ep 5.

  27. Fern says:

Woohoo! Finally back, with two weeks off to boot…(tempered a bit by the trailing “buuut…I have another few weeks after that to set my affairs in order before effectively dropping off the face of the Earth for six months or so”)

Snapped up the last couple episodes of Air in the little gap we had on Easter weekend between underways… …no comment. Must figure out a way to play through the game now. In the meantime, I’m going to have to start collecting the other series y’all have been talking about, as part of my quest to acquire roughly half a year’s worth of entertainment in the space of a few weeks. >_<

  28. Drango says:

Fern, I wish you luck! *bows*

Revilo, that looks like a good invention… But I think if I were to touch that in the morning I would wake up instantly… The whole carpet texture would be quite the surprise to me when I’m expecting plastic… I guess I would get use to it afer a bit though….

  29. Sanosuke says:

Oh man, heart-string-tuggy is the understatement of the century! I was depressed already, so I watched it to cheer myself up(mistake)…. I’m sure you can imagine what that did. X_X

On the emotional wavefront, ep 15 of Tsukuyomi Moon Phase brought a smile (w00t for Hazuki) but I’m unfortunately quite aware that very bad times are ahead (yeah, I went nuts and watched the raws under the excuse of seeing how well I could follow the straight Japanese dialog).

  31. Boggrt says:

I want to make love to you

  32. jordan says:

so this is how hard doing a web comic? o well, i still wanna make one :)!!!

  33. Zekk says:

Piro-san, I have a question. You mention you odn’t draw enough. Well, would it be possibly for you to draw a picture of Piro in that awesome hat you had him wearing during comic 0693? I really think that is a cool hat. (Make one for Megagear! lol)

    Thanks,
    –Zekk

  34. vexx says:

Actually, if you browse through the archives, one of the DPD days with him and Kimiko has him wearing the hat. Strip 290 to be exact.

And in the distraction world: Mahoraba ep 9 is torrenting… wheeee

  35. vexx says:

wow…. Mahoraba #9 was “teh strange” … actually kind of unpleasant not funny (in my opinion). Ah well, onward…

  36. vexx says:

AIR 13 is out … though it beats the hell out of me what they plan on doing in it (”recap”????)

  37. Terra Sekora says:

jeez look at all the buildings in that last page o.o lol Love Largo’s attitude in the last panel.

  38. fredrin says:

    @vexx re: mahoraba 9

And to think they toned down chiyuri’s behavior and made it much less echii than it is in the manga :)…

Just wait for 10 and 11. Very much worth waiting for. 10 was a riot :)

  39. vexx says:

AIR 13 has an interesting bit after the credits … don’t skip it.

  40. vexx says:

It wasn’t the crossdressing and cosplay that bothered me … there was just kind of a meanness to the two girls dressing him up to begin with… up to now, even psycho-camera-chick (still having trouble with the names) essentially just wants whats best for ms. Multiplex-chan and drunk-kitsune-chick was just a good timer … ah well… the series has been stellar over all, so I’ll just label it a bit of a bump. I guess I also thought this personality was a bit boring compared to the other three.

Really liking the artwork and general goofiness though…

(but I’m completely head over heels for TMP:Hazuki-chan — I can’t believe I put off taking a look at it for so long).

  41. hiro says:

well, i’m only up to 11…just watched it today. i’ve been mainly going with The Triad, but when you’ve got the craving…

i thought that the whole “crows-eye-view” thing was pretty interesting, if not a bit excessive o_o..
*is reminded of the Kare Kano recaps*

yeah, that hat is really awesome.
whatever happened to the Puchiko hat, though?
i just bought one from AnimeNation for a friend (a guy…don’t ask -_-), and it’s really cool. i say bring back the Charat!

fred: glad to see that the move went well. moving is disorenting as hell (as i’m sure you know -_-), but at least you’re not in high school, ne?
drink something caffeinated and it’ll all be fine.
    good luck unpacking.

*runs off to torrent 12 and 13*
