bork, borked, borkeder

These server issues just make me wanna hit myself in the face with a 2×8. Sorry that i haven’t blogged much lately, but things have been that out of kilter lately. Kinda tired of it, i sorta want things to settle down a little. Big thing now is that i have to catch up on some email, i have a LOT of important emails i have to get to. I even have two eps of Air and Mahoraba sitting here ready to watch. Bleah. I wonder when…

Oooo Fred, your install for 2 amazing new episodes of Mahoraba ^^. And to answer your question Aaron, there’s only 13 episodes of Air, that was the final one. ^^

You are seriously in need of a mirror, sir. Why don’t you figure a way to - at least - transfer image loading to the alternate host - as in, the megatokyo.de/it/whatever that hosts multiple languages of the comic, AND mirrors the english one?

    juuuuust my four canadian cents.

  5. Dan Says:

Asami-chan and her mom are the only two things that keep me watching that show. : D

  6. vexx Says:

ep 10 of Mahoraba was quite humorous. Perhaps Tamami-chan and the teacher are cousins… heh. Beware the Unspeakable Torture… (what is it?) … we do not speak of it.

And some nice development of the romance arc… though I wonder if Tamami is really interested in Kozue’s happiness as I saw some bits of possessiveness at the beginning.
The 3 classmates got no names to speak of but they got some character definition.

Asami’s mom (Soyoka?) is probably the most upbeat she’s been in all the episodes :)

  7. vexx Says:

The mirror would have to be as robust to take the load… best of all worlds would be a number of mirrors with a round robin dns redirector for the main relatively static pages…. the forum is another story. It probably needs a table redesign to stick with mySQL but that thought makes my brain hurt.

I don’t have a 2×8 but I have a 2×4 :) Don’t worry, things’ll slow down. I just got off one big rush myself. If lil ol’ me can hang in there, so can you!

  9. Hiro Says:

    2×8’s hurt like hell.
    long story, but…just trust me.
    don’t.

    *rubs his nose* uguuuu~~…

the server problem sounds annoying as hell. do you think it may just be a cologuys thing? machall’s been on the fritz a lot recently, too…

as to AIR, yeah — i just finished 12 yesterday. i dont know if i like it _better_ than kanon, but definitly as much as. Kanon was my big “winter” anime this year, and AIR looks like it’s gonna be my “summer” one XD.

    still need to see mahoraba.

    (What? like, wow, kinda soft?)

Keep on rockin’ on Fred, hopefully without the need for large pieces of wood.

    Fred-sama:

I’d wait till you are in a better mood to watch Air 12….. I made the mistake of watching it when in a bad mood, and…. wow. x_x

    Sano

  13. Terra Sekora Says:

Hmm better stay away from the mallets, too! *gasp* I wanna blanket! T_T Did you make it?

I know the borkeder feeling. Just finished trying to modchip my PS2 and ended up pretty well killing the thing. Now I just gotta hope I can find a replacement console before the slim version is the only one available any more.

Browsing around for the Mahoraba OST .. so far the only place I’ve found is Amazon USA at IMPORT premium price ($38) — due out 14 April. Considering I was able to snare Tsukuyomi MP Full Collection for less $20 incl shipping, I think Amazon’s import prices are kind of robbery…

    Any leads appreciated…
(Saki-chan’s theme is kind of catchy, you know).

  16. NightStrife Says:

I blame Vexx, but I went and started watching Mahoraba (finished up through 10). It’s a fun little series to watch when you want to relax a bit. The little dancing rectangle things in the opening still crack me up when I watch it.

I also read the first few volumes of the Tsukuyomi manga (covering up through episode 10, but without episode 6 and related developments). I’m not impressed. I feel the anime has done a much better job at the emotional development and making us care about the characters, even if it is adding a few things to do so.

That might actually be the reason right there — the manga feels empty. The anime has more action, more character development, more screen time for secondary characters, more

  17. vexx Says:

ouch.. I was planning on ordering the TMP manga in a pile… now maybe I’ll just order the first couple and see. There are cases where the export from manga to anime improves the result drastically. TMP anime does a spiffy job of making me care about the characters at least.

In the case of Mahoraba — I was seriously unimpressed with the first manga book… in that case, the anime was multiple steps up in quality (imo).

  18. vexx Says:

Actually, the “don’t sit close to the tv” openings are what crack me up … and psycho-skorpion-hair Tamami …

  19. scify Says:

*blinks* Alright, until episode 9 (of Air, that is) that whole past-thing had me seriously lost… even now, I’m still a little unsure of what’s going on… gearing up to watch 11, since you guys said it was so strong…

Taking on a big job in a school play is not a good idea ontop of 5 AP classes… >.<

  20. vexx Says:

eerrrrr, sounds like my son’s schedule (at least his jazz band was the pit orchestra for the school play and he’s just a freshman so his classes are advanced prep for AP courses starting next year).

Air: I both enjoyed Air and was a bit disappointed… the past arc kind of made the present-day stories harder to relate to (though still tragic but now we know the Buddhist/Shinto angles)… but the past arc characters were apparently so well received (I liked them too) that a follow-on “prequel” of sorts is planned for the summer that tells the story of the Kanno and her companions more thoroughly.

Hard to say more without spoiling…

You might find the characterizations of Tsukuyomi Moon Phase interesting too (if you can get past the occasional slapstick and goofy intro) but you’ll probably have to IRC them at this point … the torrents are available but starting to fade away.

    ^_^ Yay for Kimiko blankets…

and it seems to me that you found Kimiko on the “No sad girls on my show” comic…

    …but that’s just me ^^;;;;

Good luck moving…i know how much it sucks *moves about 3 times a year* ;-;’

  22. vexx Says:

    I’m amazed that

1 - you even tried to put out more than a DPD series on a moving week, especially after the servers all hairballed.

2 - that you got broadband connected so quickly (most of the telcos and cable are abysmal about initial hookups and getting them right).

Take a break tonight and watch TMP/Mahoraba if you aren’t caught up … I’d honestly avoid AIR’s last couple of episodes until you’ve got a day to recover … my throat still hangs up when I play Azora or Natsukage …
I’ve got about half the raws from TMP’s last six eps, but the fansubs seem to be a bit late this week (so I’m spinning in circles) and the raws are getting tougher to get as the torrents fade out … unfortunately the other sources are a bit user-unintuitive so I need to spend a few minutes deciphering them.

    *pipiru pirupiru pipiru pi*

Just watched the first subbed release of Dokura-chan… the show is wrong in so many ways I’m not sure whether to laugh at it or be horribly disturbed by it. Since neither interpretation makes it appeal to me, I doubt I’ll watch it further, though.

  24. vexx Says:

There were *parts* I found hysterical (like when he and Dokura-chan are exchanging monotonic dialog as they walk down the hall towards class)…. and the whole monkey/Dokura-says-hi-to-class was briefly funny, I even found the “world of the future” bit funny… but I’m not a fan of the grotesque faces or the “potty humor” and I found the second angel a bit odd in enjoying her murder attempts too much (rather than something more angelic “o my, it is awful but we must stop him”).

The opening song is just soooooo Harvard Lampoon wrong funny, though…
Actually, much of it reminds me of the old tasteless but you found yourself chuckling National Lampoon humor from the 70s.

I’ll keep the first one around for a counter-example to the stuff I like — just to show the range of anime … but yeah, unlikely to acquire the next release unless I’m mind-numbingly bored.

The next Negima has been fansubbed (#13) and the animation *has* been improving (word has it that they may re-animate much of the first ten episodes for DVD because it was so poorly done). Blargh, where’s TMP #16 fansub …. I hate being caught up , every day late makes me spin faster…

  25. dark morford Says:

I’ve pretty much stopped watching Negima fansubs altogether… I checked out all the groups that did episode 1 (yeah, all seven of ‘em), and only found two groups that I felt I could handle for a full season or more. Problem is, one of those groups hasn’t put out anything since episode 5 (but was pretty quick with subs before then), and the other is still coming along slowly. I have some fairly major translation/style issues with the one group that seems to be actively turning it out; maybe they’ve gotten better with it since episode 4, I’ll need to check them again. For now, my Japanese - which is still absolutely terrible - along with the fact that I read the manga lets me get by on raws.

Dokuro-chan… eeh, I guess I’d say that I enjoy it. I’ve seen much better “wacky comedy” style anime (Guu comes to mind), but Dokuro-chan is amusing in its own way. I’ll continue to grab it when subs come out, but not as rabidly as my other shows.

Now back to tracking down raws for Mai-HiME and Nanoha… got into those shows late, so hunting down raws for early episodes isn’t as easy as it could have been.

  26. vexx Says:

I don’t have the raws of Nanoha (I assume you mean Mahou Shounen) but I have the full season in sub form. Email me if you continue to have trouble finding them.

  27. vexx Says:

Fred: region-free English sub DVDs of Moon Phase are starting to appear in anime webshops (at least Phase 1 - ep1/2 so far). The first 4 are available from Japan but at the usual premium prices. The US Domestic prices are much more reasonable for the usual unfathomable reasons.

Haven’t spotted any review yet, but I’m hoping they’re correcting the “frames are late, insert a still here” problems some of the episodes had.

Now if Mahou would just hurry along….
