from the gut

Nothing sucks worse than almost getting back on track, and then having the tree branch you are holding onto break. :) Thats sorta what thursday evening felt like. Also, Fridays comic too way too much out of me. Panel 4 took 4 tries before i got it even close to right (and im not sure its really there but it works) and… bleah. This sequence is kinda draining me… tho actually, i think it had more to do with the fact that i was coming down sick than with any emotive drama in creation bs :P

Saturday was supposed to be a quiet day, Seraphim and I were going to go out and buy some plants and do some gardening type stuff (it’s weird having like, a yard now, and places to plant things). The only problem was, i was sick saturday. Nothing sucks more than having to spend a day off sick. You get nothing done, and all you want to do is feel better. (sigh)

Well, its sunday, i still haven’t finished a Megatokyo rant, i have to get started on the comicking, i have advertising emails to take care of, i have files to upload and other business things i have to take care of today, and … bleah. It’ll be a busy day.

Boring blog entry, but thats a pretty good assessment of my motivations today :)

fred, worry more about feeling better than about monday’s comic — its OK to be late if you’re, like, sick.

in my old house (literally, an “old home”), before i moved to the apartment i’m in now, we had a sprawling 3 acres of land, complete with a fenced-in garden for actual crop-type things, and two other gardens for plants. needless to say, i miss it. it’s nice to have plants and such around, and its nice to work on them.
    you know, “recharging”, and stuff ^^;

even weirder than having them is _not_ having them around if you move again.

Hey, Fred, sorry to hear you’re feeling down.
Maybe some fanart will pick you up?

Anyway, if you get the chance, try growing some bottle gourds! They’re easy to grow, and are actually quite fun to have around. They have a very pleasing shape, and look hilariously amusing at all stages of growth. : D

Greeting’s Piro, Instead of telling you how much I love your comic and it inspires me, I’ll comment on your situation.
It’s odd, but often when I read your blog’s/rant’s on megatokyo or here ( I havn’t read them all yet), You seem to be ill or lacking in sleep! The way you keep up your work like this, and still produce such an addictive comic is both motivational and inspiring to me, not just as an artist but as a working person in general. And I generally don’t like working - lol - Having said that, without work comes no achievment etc, and work of various kinds often makes me feel great. But I currently don’t take my art for work, though if i ever attempt what you do with megatokyo, that would change for me i’m sure. I think you should take it easy whenever you can (easier said than done) and remmember the importance of rest and relaxation as well as work. A favorite performer of mine - The lead singer from “HIM”, a Metal band (love metal) - Said that the most important thing in life is sleep. In some respect’s I agree with him! lol
I hope you feel much better soon! And find tiome to buy some plant’s with Seraphim! Have you ever owned a Bonzai plant or a Dragon Plant? Their great! And Dragon plant’s can get really big and cool.
Anyhow dude I wish you the best of luck and happieness in your career and life.
Here are a few suggestions: If you havn’t already, then see Cowboy Bebop! It rules! But you must’ve.
Play Final Fantasy VII (but you’ve prob already done that).- It’s my fave RPG.
Listen to some “HIM” (NOT His Infernal Majesty) official site: http://www.heartagram.com, best album to get is - I beleive - “And Love said no” , as it’s a kind of best of - greatest hit’s.
Also to Metallica if you havn’t. Best album to get is just called Metallica - It’s a totally black cover with a sillouette of a snake in the bottom corner. What am I saying though right? you MUST HAVE HEARD THESE GUYS.
Here’s one to tell LArgo too, KONAMI’s “Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner” - That rocks man. For PS2. Mecha action cell shaded, AWSOME!.
AND! Resident Evil 4!! Another excellent peice of gaming history!
Not forgetting, you must (if you havn’t) try Super Smash Brothers Melee!

And do me a favour and visit my Brothers site, INFACT EVERYONE VISIT THIS SITE OF MY BROTHERS! IT’S GREAT! It’s called: “Kermy In tThe City”! Kermy (the frog) has been captured and is being held hostage by my brother Ross and His best freind Stuart (both about 23 now). The story can be both hilarious and captivating. It’s a series of mini films you can see, I believe there are 2, with a 3rd on the way. Filmed, edited, perormed, composed for, storyborded and directed by Ross Thomas and Stuart Brown. IT RULES! PLEASE CHECK IT OUT!

Well, I hope you read this, I’ll have to e-mail you and send you some art of my own sometime soon! All the best, and rock on,

yeah, it sucks being sick. all this weekend, i think i’v been something like websick.if there is such’a thing.it seems that every time i turn around things would not appear as there are met to be. and then when i get that fixed, it messes something els up. ahhh… and then when i was working on site related thing today, the cable-net/cable went down here in battle creek. found that comcast has some issues with lining up with there satellite’s.

but, i hope you get better soon fred, it really sucks being sick. and i no you don’t like hearing it, but don’t worry about the comic and just try getting better. o-tay ^_^

    maybe it’s just *sneeze* allergies?

    *tries to breath thru nose*
    *suffocates*

    ugh…i hate this…

  8. vexx says:

hmmm, I’m beginning to wonder if its “typical allergies” or not… there are wonderful little lifeforms of mildew and mold that can get you (Michigan not being particularly dry… and living in Oregon, I’m discovering new things that make me sick — as opposed to the old things that made me sick in the swamps of Texas)… anyway.. you might be having a reaction to *something* that the OTC stuff won’t stop, especially some of those damned evil molds.

Bleh.. gone for two days and no new subs — I did start reading .HACK on someone’s recommendation. Its cute but nothing outstanding so far in book one — but I usually give a manga 3 books before I decide to continue or not.

  9. Terra Sekora says:

get well sooooooon fred!!!!! *holds up giant get well card* *blows nose* Colds suck!! So do allergies!! So punch ‘em in the gut, step on ‘em, and get better! :D

  10. Rhandir says:

*sniffle. hack. cough* Yeah. Allergies for me, sick for you. Too bad. Get well soon.

And the yard? Congrats. Not very long ago I assimilated into suburbia and got the very first lawn of my own. Before I moved there I thought I was so very hip and ironic, too cool to think that having the perfect suburban lawn. Little did I know that I would geek out about it the first three or four times I mowed it. (Insert annoying squee sound here.) That feeling doesn’t last. But thistles and dandilions do.*

I love that taking care of the yard and gardening gets me out of the house and away from work, it gives me uninterrupted time to think.

*Apparently you can put some stuff down in the fall that supresses them next spring. Oh, and get those noise-blocking earmuffs. Conventional lawnmowers zap your hearing a little bit at a time.

Coming from someone who only gets seriously sick for 3-4 days in a row in December for the entire year, I do wish you the best in health, Gallagher-san. With your schedule, it is sad to hear that you have come down with sickness, and even had your quiet day ruined by it. I hope that you will be able to make up for that day you lost with Seraphim.

    uguuuu~…

They haven’t put out more Dokuro-chan because there isn’t any more Dokuro-chan - at least, not yet. Do keep in mind that Dokuro-chan is an OVA series, and as such won’t be on the one-episode-a-week schedule that most series have. The Dokuro-chan official site (http://www.bin-kan.com) indicates that the next volume (episodes 3-4) will be available on May 25, and continuing one volume every two months ending in September, for a total of four volumes, eight episodes.

  13. CeeKari says:

I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well v.v If it makes you feel any better, I think the comics are getting better and better. The story is really getting interesting now (not that it wasn’t before). You can do it!

  14. Illness sucks, but you are inspiring in that you keep going. Keep on rockin’ on Fred. Oh, also: the current plot line has raised Megatokyo from joint number one, on my webcomic favourites list to sole number one.

@ Vexx: Last time I checked .Hack was only 3 volumes long, so you may be finished before you can decide, I’ve only read as far as volume 1 and wasn’t all that impressed either though.

  15. Drango says:

Volume 1 of the .HACK manga is pretty much introducing the characters, the real plot kicks in at volume 2 and 3 finishes it all up.

I definatly recomend you get the rest of it!

Was in Long Beach WA this weekend chaperoning #2 son’s high school band for a town parade.
Saturday, I wore my Baka^ni shirt — was walking down the street and cute little Japanese tourist burst out laughing… “Baka!!?? you know what that mean?” yes, I explained the inside joke (ala the Engrish shirts in Japan) and then I had to tell her where the website was because she wanted a shirt so she could tell friends in Japan that at least *some* gaijin “get it”.

The rest of the day, she’d drag the occasional friend by to have me show them the shirt.

Also discovered that about a third of my son’s band read Megatokyo and a few are taking Japanese — so the shirt was a big hit.
