A slightly bigger gap in rants and blogs than usual recently, but that is mostly because i’ve been writing three things at once, and oddly enough, it has been working. I’ve been writing chapter 7 and establishing a good general framework for it, i’ve been working on this omake (which really a highly distilled and focused version of the original ‘circuity’ story idea, which would prolly have been 100 pages and really IS different than what you are reading, an odd mirror/turbulent refraction of the original :P) and… I have finally got my arms fully around the warmth story. Yes, warmth. I’ve mapped the entire thing out now, and even tho its still a grand overview, i’ve started to map down the bigger chunks so the details can start connecting things together. Long time coming, but its finally puling together.
I sorta hate being a “method creator” - kinda like a method actor (someone who lives the part they are acting), the stuff that goes on the paper in front of me has to go thru my head, and tends to wreak all sorts of havoc on the way down. ^^;; This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, because writing stuff that makes you feel certain ways is a lot like watching stuff that makes you feel certain ways… thats what art and storytelling is all about. Some of us are lucky enough that we are able make stuff that effects us, and the real lucky ones find that it effects others as well.
So i’m kinda lucky, i guess. But it puts all of you at the mercy of what i am willing to put myself through
Honestly, though, this omake has been a nice stretch for me. I’m an intense person in a lot of ways, and the sad fact is this is where my work tends to lean… but i think this leaning is part of what makes the lighters side of my work, which is also very important to me, work as well as it can sometimes. I have an odd sense of humor that is there even in the deepest darkest parts of my pysche… which is a good thing. It’s like always knowing where the door is.
The last chapter had quite a few serious moments in it, and you could almost say it was a little off balance, but it had to be done to get things really into the places i needed them to be. The balance of chapter 7 is going well so far, and the intent is that the start of it should be a nice contrast to this rather serious between-chapter omake.
anyway, all this methodology has been making me moody and uncommunicative if you look at my website mutterings, but the truth is i feel good about what i’ve been creating, and it’s stuff that will be feeding the things i make for many months to come.
Oh yay more warmth. It’s good that you are planning stuff more, perhaps you wont be as stressed.
Yatta! I’ve been looking forward to warmpth. Keep it up Fred-sama!
Warmth, eh? It’s good to hear that you’re progressing! ^__^ I’m so happy! And think, now that you are getting this out of the way, you will be less stressed later! You’re saving yourself, I guess it what I’m saying…
Got around to Warmth, huh? I look forward to seeing that and the next chapter of Megatokyo ^__^
yay! warmth! i was wonderin about that…well as far as your creative processes go…i think they are fine…cause the results are always good in my opnion…i dont think anyone can deny that…so you wont hear complaint from me! i dnt think you should pay and attention to heavy complaints…most are probably just from people who have problems and they give you the heat from it! You should never listen to criticism unles its posotive or at least contructive!
Alright! It’s good to hear the good news about Warmth. I’d enjoyed the preview stuff that had been done before and I look forward to more. Focus on telling your stories and don’t let too many of the overly obsessed/critical fans sway your opinions or your resolve to create something that -you- can and will still enjoy doing for a long time to come…
It’s my opinion that the ‘Method’ storyteller is often a more effective teller in some ways - they tell about their experiences, their knowledge… honestly, what are stand-up-comedians if they aren’t good storytellers who know how to draw a reaction from a crowd? I feel that you, Fred, are that kind of storyteller. Don’t lose what makes your stories touch human emotion. Best of luck with pulling everything together. Hope your sister’s kid is doing well.
Lovin’ the omake, lookin’ forward to Ch. 7…
i am overjoyed to hear about Warmth!
and i love this omake. really, really well-done, fred.
can’t wait for chapter 7 ^_^;;

*gnaws on the omake* Mmmmm… Tasty good…
Keep ‘em comin’ Piro… you’ve yet to dissapoint us ^_~
ooh cant wait till chapter 7 comes. I dont really get the omake but it seems really deep and im liking it. but oh man i cannot believe you have actually started doing warmth again, this is great news!
Heh– practically everyone latched hopefully on the the news that you’ve made a bit more progress on Warmth. You simply can’t produce enough material to satiate us!

Thanks for keeping us so entertained with MT and all your other works. I’m enjoying the omake (though you’re still a total Haibane slave!)
Don’t be afraid to let it happen at its own pace– not everyone has a muse which can keep up with the prevalent “I want it, and I want it NOW!!!11″ attitude. Let the impatient find something else to occupy themselves with. Me, I’m patient…
Piro, I’m really enjoying Circuity and I thought the last chapter was really good. Keep it up!
mmmmmmm, Warmth.
I’m assuming the 4 pager from Amerimanga (archived on this website) can be considered the “promo” in anime terms and that you’ve written the entire story to start at the beginning rather than picking up from where that left off.
Your artistic skills have improved since then even if you don’t change a line of dialog from that “promo”. Now I shall spin quietly in my office chair waiting…
I’m starting to have Mahoraba and Moon Phase withdrawals again…. I sincerely hope the nice fansub people finish their work on those two wonderful series. And I’ve pulled an Igor (from Dorktower) “IT MUST BE MINE!!” by acquiring a 13″ resin statue limited edition Motoko (from Love Hina), a beautiful piece at an insane price. Now I have a shrine suitable to my avatar on the forums.
1) Yay for Warmth!
2)I love the omake
3)This seems like good timing to say I’ve obtained the “Air” folder I’ve been eyeing at my friend’s shop for Fred-sama as a gift. ^_^ How I will get it to you (Fred, is a mystery as yet, but I only hope I don’t seem crazy/stalker-ish. ^_^;; I will endeavor to get pictures.
Mr.Gal, being a method creater is actually a very hard thing to do! I was suprised when I saw you use the term. Psychologists use it for someone who can live throught their works, just like you said you could. Many famous authours and artists are described this way! As for you omake, battles between heaven and hell are the stuff of a legendary manga. Not that hell is being incorperated here, as far as I can tell. Making the comic serious was a great move, although it still has funny parts I think you should try and remove them. Your doing a great job Mr.Gal and keep up the great work of entertaining us people.
Yep, your a wacko. Welcome to the club, I’m sure you’ll like it here.
Your omake is awesome ^^ And I know Warmth will be just the same or even better.
Warmth! Yay! I’v been looking forward for Warmth for a while now.^^
Method Creators <3
man… i just discovered these sites (megatokyo and then fredart) a week or so ago. that night i read about 500 pages and the next i finished the rest… i must say that you do amazing work. then i decided to check out the random sketches and stuff at fredart, and i must say that i’m very glad to have discovered your stories/drawings. Hope that you can show us chapter 7 soon… and in the meantime keep it up on the omake, its crazy but i love it
w00t two Piro comics -dances- that makes me happy.
but what dosnt make me happy is that the angel girl died T.T she was cool i liked her wings. anyways i cant wait to read Warmth and the omake is going great
keep up the good work :]
;-; No… That’s sad! Expected from what she said but still kanashii (sad)! ,;-;,
This omake is unbeleivable and its only what, four, five pages long? I’m an avid fan of megatokyo, and I can’t wait for chapter seven, but I’m so engrossed in Circuity I don’t want it to end. It takes a lot of talent to do what you do Mr. Gallagher, but I don’t think anyone else does it better.
Dear Piro/Fred/and possibly many other names ahead.
it’s delightful to hear you’re planning things out, now. mapping, if you will. but i’ve got a couple things to say about your “mega Tokyo” entry:
you should beable to write things about your private and personal life without people !@*ing at you about it. i mean, you’re possibly one of the greatest artists i’ve known for a while (save Yoshitaka amano) but really. fans suck. the only people you’re really going to have all through your life, are good friends, and family. not friends that get the words “Friends” and “aquiantence” mixed up. no. just “friends”. like.. let’s say, Piro and Largo. they are pretty good friends. sure, they have their problems. like the occasional strangling with headphones. or taking advantage of one when they are drunk. but they save eachother’s skins in one way or another.
i’m just saying, you can do whatever you want. fans aren’t worth venting. you know. and if you ever need TO vent, i’ve always been one to listen. *smiles*
From,
Ni
w00t Omake! So far enjoying it all. So far have yet to see anything at all dissapointing from ya, so all is well.
Congrats on your progress ^_^. I would love to read the original Circuity, but I’m happy that I get to read the version that is the Omake. =D
Good luck with your future work, I feel lucky I get to glimpse into the Megatokyo world and the people/characters in it.
Now I know how it feels to be a junkie.
“Since you like Megatokyo, you might like this Omake. The only difference between them is that Omake is a highly concentrated and refined version of Megatokyo. Go ahead, you won’t get hooked. It might stop your heart, but you won’t get hooked.”
I’m starting a 12-step support group when this omake ends. I dunno…maybe there’s a patch or something…
This Omake of yours is something I haven’t seen since some of the stuff from Star Crossed Destiny. I like what your doing so far. Good luck with the plot lines for 7, from one storyteller to another. Hope to see more on Warmth when you come to Otakon next month. See you then, and keep up the good work.
Everyone has their own way. If it works for you, then by all means do it ( so long as it doesn’t upset the fragile balance that is one’s sanity… mine tipped over long ago ) Obviously it is working for you. The comic is excellent and this omake is riviting. As a friend of mine once said ” there is character in the characters “. And by that I mean more than just stereotypes. They need to be both traits that are broad enough to be easily identified with, but also traits that are unique enough that that they can truely stand out as individuals. You’ve succeeded in that which is no small feat. Keep it up and we’ll keep coming to see and read it.
Keep it up, Piro!
I know I Already responded here once… but i just had to say Piro, the art so far in this Omake has been some of your best yet…it’s expressive in a whole new way. Keep it up, and see you at Otakon-
Glad to hear about Warmth, and the omake is awesome. Your dedication to your work and your fans (despite the rabid, demanding ones) is astonishing and inspiring, perhaps even more then all you’ve accomplished since you began. And those who appreciate it outnumber those who don’t, even if the latter seems more vocal. How you feel about your work is more important then an update; quality over quantity, right?
this omake is pretty to look at… but i have no idea what the crap is going on :l seems so far like something better for an actualy story than an omake..then it could be explained instead of just just getting thrown into a story-world that makes no sense…
anyway, like i said… it’s pretty to look at still. just wish you had time to actually show what all is happening [in the actual comic, not in a side rant somewhere...]…
Hooray, Warmth! I’ve read the first bit of it that was published in AmeriManga and loved it. Along with what you have posted here on fredart I can’t wait to see what you’ve done with it. I bet no matter what it’ll be great! ^_^
And the omake is awesome too. If it’s a condensed version of a whole seperate story I think it would be awesome if one day you decided to tell the story in full. It really is pulling me in ^^
Best of luck with all your work! Can’t wait for more MT too. Keep it up ^_^
I love Circuity! I really like the way you paralelled Erika giving up on Largo before he started in MT in it(Circuity.) –Though I feel bad for Largo-san!
Always have loved what I find here, from the short funny stuff in the beginning to the drama/comedy MT has become, to your Art, to Warmth. Happy to hear about the movement. Keep Happy!
