hiccups

You may have noticed that i deleted my last blog post, the one i put up yesterday morning. I’m not usually in for deleting stuff once it’s posted, but i kinda felt like, after posting it, i felt uncomfortable about it, so i took it down. I appreciate all the kind and supportive posts i received, thank you. Things are better today - a certain person is home from the hospital and is doing fine, so that turned out ok.

The comic itself was hard, every once and a while i have these comics where getting something done is an intense struggle. It’s just something you work through when it happens. What i DON’T like is that whenever i find myself struggling with the writing, i start getting dozens of emails strongly suggesting that since i am struggling, maybe i need help with the writing and should get a co-writer. Good frickin lord, people - just because you struggle with something doesn’t mean you can’t do it, it just means that its hard. I don’t care if writing for me is hard, i think that the production of a good story is hard work. You get out of it what you put into it.

Anyways, i’m still tottering around with writing for friday’s comic, but im getting there. Time to get back to it. Also, i plan to get back on track with blogging regularly. Thanks for your patience with the lack of material here recently. Otakon was a big event for us, and i’m just now starting to get my head back on straight.

*does a happy dance* Glad to see your day’s going a little better. ^.^ Love the new Megatokyo strip, too.

Yeah. You’ve been doing great w/o someone else! A struggle is a struggle, pure and simple. Or is anything simple?

Well, I’m not going to ramble on your blog. I love the Kimiko-Piro story, btw.

    A happy fan-

  2. You have nothing to apologize for WRT your last blog post, which I read, Sir.

    Take your time.

    Aloha mai Nai`a.

  3. hiro says:

glad to hear that everything is ok..

otakon was huge, but you really did well at the panel (even sans Sarah :P). especially the dancing.

i’m not even going to begin to try and relate to your writing difficulties, because i can’t write. i admire you because you don’t stop trying when you get down about it, though.

sometimes all it takes is another cup of coffee, you know?

Definitely glad things turned out ok.
I’d love to hear more about Otakon, if you ever run dry on topics for blog posts.*
Keep having fun. I know I will reading Mt. I love the direction of the current story.

*er…what’s your policy on fans distributing audio/video of you speaking? Would you prefer that we not do so?

  5. Alec says:

    You don’t need a co-writer.Plain and simple.

  6. Prepostra says:

A co writer? Hmmm. I dont think so, instead of struggling you could just have “discussions” with your colleague as to why certain things happen. Internal dialogue VS Extrnal “discussion”.

Sounds like a zero sum game to me

You’re doing fine, bumpy but just fine.

  7. WhiteKnight says:

You certainly do not need a co-writer. I’d much rather have it good than have it fast. It’s that simple for me.

  8. Graeme Miller says:

Good to hear things went alright.

Comic is great, everyone I talk to over here is loving it. Go Piro an Largo :)
Keep it up, what was the phrase again… aye that was it. Think of kittens :)

  9. Myles says:

    Greetings Sir,
It’s been a while since I left a message. Firstly, I’d like to further your point that writing a story requires dedication and can often be hard. I don’t think there’s ANYTHING wrong with what i’ve read in this story so far. But I DO think that although it’s nice to hear what people think, ultimately you should concentrate on what makes YOU happy with the storiline. And don’t forget there is always inspiration, around every corner. With an artists mind like your own, you caan grasp it. Maybe it’s just that you’ve got alot on your plate right now, give yourself a chance, hit some dpd’s (screw the few impatient fools), and… What i’m saying is maybe it’s time you hit the refresh button on the Piro-system!

All the best, hoping I helped at least a little,
From an aspiring manga artist, Myles Thomas.

You need to stop apologizing! Next post, don’t say you’re sorry. Your work is amazing, and it doesn’t deserve it’s creator to apologize. ^_^

  11. Alex says:

I agree with Myles. Forget the lame people who make useless suggestions. Unfortunately they’re probably just jealous they can’t write a comic that gets this many people this excited and they want to glom onto it somehow. I’m constantly amazed at the way they treat or speak to Fred via message-board/email. People seem to forget that he posts these comics for FREE and doesn’t even charge to view the archives despite the fact that those comics are currently published. People need to remember that they are basically being given a gift with this comic and should respect the creators time and space. When was the last time anyone out there did something and gave it away for everyone’s enjoyment?

  12. Jack90 says:

I know how you feel, piro… at least about doing something as a struggle.

I probably have one of the busiest schedules in my family. Juggling between band, family, and my job as a web page manager for my church’s website, making movie for them, and in the end, work on my own site… it’s a struggle to do anything… everything just runs together.

I also know how you feel when a certain someone goes to the hospital. My grandfather went to the hospital for a heart attack over a month ago. For a week he was in the ICU…

Anyways… good job on the comic today (or is it yesterday… I’m tired.) I just love it. We men have trouble keeping our mind clean. File names and skimpy clothes don’t help us much. :P

  13. mittens-san says:

I’m glad your back on track! The comics are starting again! ^.^

Struggling means you really care about Megatokyo and are really making it uber spiffy. Which means that what ever you put out whether it’s easy to do or hard to do will be really good!

Poor Piro, he just can’t win right now with Kimiko :)

  14. vexx says:

Two sources of negative energy leech at you:
    1) the lame losers who can only denigrate what you do and use every opportunity to launch flames at you… they’re the “its hip to dis MT” lot.
    2) the ones that remind me of my mother … every time we turned around she was pulling this schtick: “Are you tired honey? Why don’t you lay down a bit? You’re working yourself too hard.” (aieee!!!)

Both are evil in their own ways….
To paraphrase a nest of Japanese idioms… good luck, carry on, we support you, and will probably treat you kindly.

  15. Kazuki says:

After dropping in and reading after god-knows how long, I thought I should say that you definately need to remember that you’re human and that people’ll forgive you if you slow down. And if they don’t…well, frankly it’s their problem, not yours. As someone mentioned above, you’ve been extremely kind to your fans in the five years MT has been online, so I -think- you can kick back a little and take a breather. Learned that the hard way, and it isn’t fun.

  16. Chi says:

I was too lazy to read this little rant thingy but what’s going on with your other series Warmth? You haven’t said anything about it sense last year!!!!! Anyways I was wondering and so I thought I’d post it!! ^-^

And I still love Megatokyo it’s awsomeness

  17. Chi says:

Oh I read it and curse those people that’s mean to tell you that you need help just because you’re having a little problem!! Grr that’s not cool I love your work and I think you do just fine by yourself! *nod* Glad that you are feeling a bit better keep up the awsome work!! ^-^

  18. fredrin says:

There is actually a lot going on in the background with Warmth. it is my next major project, and what it is and how it will be released is something i am working on. there will be news on this in the next few months, just cant say anything about it yet.

  19. MOK&DWK says:

So Fred, when are you going to crawl out from under your rock and call me? Don’t make me deal with that rabid republican to get your number again…DWK

  20. Mitchell says:

wahhh just thought id say fred i love ur work and im always ecstatic when another comic comes out….Its the highlight of my day so take ur time in making them good and worth reading…. To quote my grandfather “Most things aren’t worth doing if they aren’t done correctly”

MEGATOKYO IS DONE CORRECTLY AND I LOVE IT….

ps i was gonna cosplay piro at AWA this year but due to an onstage performance i am auditioning for that might not happen….oh well happy days

  21. becca-chan says:

you should have a private journal-thing so you can share your deeper thoughts with close friends, so on, so forth. i would LOVE to come to a Mega Tokyo convention (or something around those lines..) but i haven’t bought anything since i’m a poor schmuck, and noone big ever comes here. (i live in arkansas. doesn’t mean i scrape things off the road or have an icky icky ICKY accent! or are racist. bleh) it would be nice if you could be in hotsprings or littlerock, though. i’m not a stalker or anything, it’s alright. heheh.

i’m glad that that someone is doing alright, i just wish i read that last entry to know what was going on, though i do not know who you are, i still care about yours and the people who you are withs safety among other things. it would be awful if anything happened to you or anyone you care about. and no. not for my own beneficial reasons. just because you seem like a good person. so on, so forth.

sorry i don’t comment much. i’ll probably to s’more later.

it also makes me happy that you mentioned the Evil Dead in one of your strips. makes me very very happy. that series is so funny. heheh. my favourite is still the second one. :)
