cruise control

Ah… Well, i woudn’t go far as to say everything is perfect - i’m not really happy with wednesday’s comic, kimiko looks far cuter in glasses than she came off in this comic, something i’ll show a little clearer in a future comic (i can’t believe so many people think she wears bifocals - meh.) but the little break helped me get the story rolling in my head again - something that has been lacking for a few weeks.

It’s kinda weird, but there are definitely times when i write and draw megatokyo comics and there is almost no concept of the story in my head. No amount of notes, outlines, synopsises, scripts or anything can give you the ‘feel’ of a story. A mechanical story without feel is like a skeletal remains - there’s no flesh to it, no life. Nothing sucks worse than to have to do comics when you can’t feel them. I’m starting to get a feel for it all again, which is good. I swear, my work life is like this huge barge i keep trying to drive up a river that’s too narrow and too shallow to navigate. :P

I think i’m also being somewhat effected by the havoc wrought by the hurricane down south - our hearts go out to everyone of you who has been effected by the storm, and Sarah and I are thinking about what charities we can link people to who want to try to help. Watching that storm was like watching someone shoot someone else in the face, the fact that you could see it coming and you knew it was going to be bad… and it’s made me feel pretty sad over the past few days.

More stuff later. I have a lot of stuff rattling around in my head that needs to be cleared out. Rant time. :)

i can relate to what you’re saying about drawing a comic without a clear idea of the story. it does suck. alot.

it does not suck nearly as much as the hurricane’s effect on New Orleans, however. i think its very admirable that you want to help them out.

Hey Fred I was reading on BoingBoing this morning that the Humane Society were looking for donations. Apparently there are a lot of animals who have been displaced or hurt during this event. Just a thought.

actually, that is one of the charities listed on charity watch for the hurricane relief - i put a link to it in my main MT rant this morning along with the others. There’s not much we can do up here in Michigan, but hopefully this will help a little.

Yeah, my mind has been rattling with the images of New Orleans for the past couple days. Very sad indeed.

My mom is going down to help them for a few weeks. I’ll miss her, but it’s cool to know that she is helping with it!

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Come on down to Mardi Gras in a couple years.

As for the pets, the huge stables used for cattle and horses, are now filling up with cats and dogs. Just across the LSU campus from the human refugees.

Everyone in New Orleans and the Gulf States are in our thoughts and prayers.

Enjoyed today’s comic a lot. Can’t post this on the Forums at the MT site, they’re a bit jumpy over there.

    Thanks,

We started an initiative within our high school to donate whatever possible to the relief efforts in the other Gulf Coast states. It might not be much, considering we’re just students, but from what I can see, any bit helps.

The comic was great, though, that might be just the series of SGD strips in succession talking. But yeah, Kimiko does look cuter with the glasses. I ALMOST thought they were bifocals, but I looked closer and realized it was part of the eye line.

    Also, I remember a long time ago, maybe last year or early this year, you posted something about NamNamBulu that made me check them out. I just got word they disbanded… ;_;

I rather like the way Kimiko looks with glasses. Her expression when Matsui blew up in her ear was priceless, and I loved how the force of his verbal explosion was so powerful it knocked the whole panel out of alignment. Neat little touch there. :)
I still can’t wrap my head around New Orleans. I just can’t.

at the risk of sounding like a total fanboy, Kimiko looks so incredibly cute with glasses!

I was having a really bad morning and that just cheered me up so much.^^
