a level place

t’s no secret that I rarely answer email. It’s not just the volume of email (though that is part of it, especially since i started doing Megatokyo) but… it’s like i have some kind of mental block about actually *answering* emails. I’ve never really been sure why. Probably just another one of those things that a psychologist would have a field day with.

It also amazes me how much time i can put into dealing with email, yet still never answer anything. Especially in the past year or so. I have spent more time organizing, flagging and sorting email (nevermind the maintenance i have to do to keep the spam filters working properly - a absolute necessity with the spamsurge that tries to make it into my mailbox every day) than i have actually answering email. The biggest part of this problem, is that i never seem to finish organizing, or sorting - I always run out of time and have to move onto more important things. As such, i never hit a ‘level place’, a new starting point to work from.

Yesterday, however, i finally managed it. I stuck it out and got things to a point where i feel satisfied about how things are organized, archives, and i’m ready to move on from here. Will i be better at answering email? Probably not, not really, but i am going to try. It’s really not right that i answer so few, i need to start trying to answer some. I also managed to get advertising straightened out - i had to let some things slide in August, and the catchup there was a nightmare, but i think everything is in place and far more organized than before.

Ugh. Need to go back to t3h factory and finish up inventory, finish uploading new products, and get ready to re-open the store late tonight. Oh, and i have to do a comic too. Joy :P At least i feel like the comic is in progress again. Nothing i hate more than that ’stuck’ feeling i was suffering from a few weeks ago. I could use not having that feeling for a long time.

On a side note, i have to say one of my fave shows this year is Kamichu. Yes, its an odd choice, but there’s something really nice about it. Like most westerners, most of the stuff about gods goes over my head, but here it doesn’t bother me (unlike Spirited Away which i disliked BECAUSE all the mythological stuff just didn’t do anything for me.) Could be because the story more about the girls than anything.

Well Fred, you do kinda get a zillion times more mail than us, so it’s understandable. Funny thing though; I use Gmail so I can see the first line or so of the message, and spam is getting exceedingly weird, as if they’re not even bothing making messages but having bots write in the text–you see a real word salad that would make a Schizophrenic proud. At any rate, regarding the Kamichu/Spirited Away business; I think that what you’ve got on your hands are shows/movies that try too hard to make the mysticism ‘mystical’ and appealing, the same way the dialogue in a script can be wooden if too much strain is put into it. Understated mysticism, however, tends to work much better. But I think part of the problem is that the average westerner has little to no knowledge of the religious folklore of Japanese society besides a few simple tales. Then again, you might disagree with that. Anyhow, glad to hear you’re getting back on track. I’m happy for you.

Fabulous… *another* show I have to check out because of my hit rate with Fred’s obsessions.

Checking out Shuffle! now…. silly sketchy premise but the dads are characters and I actually find the banter between the students a bit refreshingly direct and sardonically funny… particularly the girl with compact breasts…. :)
Shinto-ism and Buddhism are just interesting belief systems — understanding at least the basics clarifies a lot of what is assumed in the manga and anime about the underlying culture.
Worth a bit of time to explore especially if you really want to appreciate the currents in some of the storylines.

eh… answer the email thats interesting ….

whoa… email is meant to be replied to?

I know exactly that feeling of seeking the “everything is sorted out now I have a stable base to do that things that will prevent such chaos from creeping in again” but never getting there. No only with respect to email but anything else that can possibly be procrastinated about too…

It’s nice to know that others deal with the same thing and congrats on finding the level place…

me? I’m just going to keep blameing my ADD

Ah… connected the dots … Asa-chan == girl with petite assets … yeah, she’s the most interesting of the girls in Shuffle! so far….

The only other interesting bit is that the dad I expected to be an “angel” was a demon and vice versa (appearance wise).

I’ve acquired 7 eps so far but only seen 1 so lunchtime is allocated (unless another Moon Phase appears…. tabling Suzuka and H&C for a bit).

G-mail is definately the way to go! I’ve had it for atleast 5 almost 6 months now and I haven’t gotten a single spam/junk e-mail yet! Although you have to be invited to g-mail…but other than that it is free and has a nice little notifier that comes with it.
