It’s been over a year since i last added a ‘color’ image to the fredart site. This is not to say that i haven’t done any color works since the Ping and Miho cover, i’ve actually done several (the Kimiko poster, the Yuki DPD, the ALA poster, etc) but it’s been a while since i just… colored something. The basic coloring i tend to do (like you can see in the last colorwork, Ping and MIho) is a style that i consider kind of simple and straighforward - nice, presents the characters well, and is much better suited for covers than pencil sketches.
I don’t find the style very… expressive. For me it’s very mechanical, and does little to inspire me to do more. That isn’t to say that color can’t be an expressive part of an sketch, taking it further than the plain sketch… doing that is something i’m trying to learn, to develop… something as much a creative expression as my pencil work is for me. The Kimiko poster worked towards that direction, and many other experiments i’ve done since also do - this is one. It’s hardly setllar, but it does work for me, in some subtle way.
Wow, Fred. Nice job! I love how it’s, well, hazy. I think it works for Pirogoeth.
Works very well with Pirogoeth. Sometimes you can go overboard with color and ruin the original feeling of the sketch, so this subtle color keeps her in-character.
Really like the way you did it. It’s simple looking, yet very appealing to the eye.
I couldn’t possibly add color to ANY sketches I do…
You’re an amazing artist. Keep it up.
you’re such a good artist. i wish you posted more of your colored pictures. they are so pretty and life-filled.
The whole piece feels like it’s been watercolored, and Pirogoeth does look a bit different compared to the other model of her with the KillStick. The eyes seem a bit wider and shapely, and since she’s much less armored in this, it looks like she’s gotten quite thin.
A great work, though the forehead seems a bit too evident and larger than normal; slightly capsule.
Congrats on finishing the strip closely on time.

…nice.
I like the way her eyes are rendered, and they don’t look at the viewer, but rather up and away as if she is lost in though or… has just spotted a foe behind you ^_^.
btw, today’s comic was nice too. Thanks for your constant effort Fred-san!

gosh how I wanted to draw like you….
I just wished you would work on that “lessons” folder, ‘cuz it would just be great to learn more from artists like you…
keep at it fred !!
Bah, Ix-nay the character model comment. I didn’t realize last night that I was looking for similarity between Piroko and Pirogoeth.

This picture looks awesome. I like the soft look that it has. And the colors,…almost like a pastel-chalk thing, going on there….It looks great!
I love it. The colors really make her face stand out boldy. But not too much at the same time. ^_^ Great coloring!
ur latesst work is beautiful sensai i just read ur latest strip as well i know its a comic but i hope largo-kun is feeling better soon okay well i supose i will go now
bye- becca
Ooh, it’s lovely. It is the most subtle colouring job you’ve done, and it gives it a different quality, not really like you, but great nonetheless.

Fred, you continue to work wonders with you art.
Pirogoeth’s character appeals to many a person, I think: she’s cute, but in a mysterious and creepy way… kind of a Miho/Kimiko/Largo/Piro combination… (okay, maybe not Largo… ^-^)
Keep up the good work, Fred. I may not visit FredArt as often as I do Megatokyo, but I still love it! There’s no way I can stand up to your sketches… I feel like Yuki right now… “All I can do is copy. My drawings are devoid of feeling…”
Love and luck from a crazed fangirl,
Midgetrat.
