Man, nothing sucks worse than getting derailed the way i have been since i got back from South Dakota. I think there was no question that i needed the break, and Sarah and I had a great time, but once I got home… i think i was more tired than i was willing to admit to myself. Also, i found myself curiously (and alarmingly) blank on the Megatokyo story. For some reason i just could not get my brain to synch with the story at all. Very scary.
Part of it, i guess, had to do with the difficulty of what i was trying to do with Mondays comic. In the end, it actually came out more or less ok. The only real remaining weakness in it is the fact that the last four frames really do not clearly show things as much as i would like. It works, but could work better. The dialogue DID come together, but the drawings were not quite up to the task. Even so, it got me past that particular set of brambles, and i’m feeling a little more confident now. Today’s efforts will be telling
Good to be back, and to finally be somewhat more rested. The weather is cool and blustery, very fall like… and as i think i’ve mentioned many times before, it is the kind of weather that inspires me to write. Its not quite time for snowy weather yet, but i can be patient
Remember a few weeks ago i talked about finding out the artist behind this piece of music that i’ve been listening to for years, and while it was great to finally KNOW what CD it was on, that finding this CD was just not working out for me… well, i need to say a big thanks to one of the posters (Tohya, i think) who posted a link to the Metropole store which seemed to have a copy of Terre Thaemlitz’s ‘Soil’… Sure enough, after ordering it, it came in the mail, and i have one of the CDs i never thought i’d have sitting on my desk.
Thank’s Tohya.
It’s actually a nice disk. There are two other tracks on here that I know i’ve heard before, too. It’s part of the 1995 Instinct Ambient series, which also had another very classic disk called SETI : Pharos. There are places i know i can get that, but… i think i’m gonna try to be good and wait a bit before attempting to purchase that disk.
Oh, and more good stuff from the Itunes music store. Amazing, really, what seems to be popping up. Recent purchase there was this great ambient CD from OX A.N.A. Once again, amazed that it was there when i punched it into the search field. Really, really need to not do that too often.

FWIW, I’d say the drawings were pretty good! They really helped to frame the flow of the dialog. And the dialog itself got me to bust out laughing! And THEN I started worrying because I actually understood the majority of the Japanese on the page without having to look it up. Might not be a big thing to most, but since I don’t speak Japanese and given what the words are… not exactly what you’d want to base “Languages 101″ on

There’s a nice ambient (I think) song that I really love listening to. It’s called “Alone in Kyoto” by Air. I hope that’s the band name, anyway. It’s on the Lost In Translation soundtrack, if you can give a listen. It’s a fairly nice suggestion for the ambient lover.

Um, just wondering if you are planning on getting around to Warmth again. Uh, yeah.. completely unrelated to your post. ^^; Keep workin’ on Megatokyo, it’s awesome.

Re: LAJL
Air isn’t really ambient, but “Alone in Kyoto” IS an amazing track, as is the rest of their work (Moon Safari, Talkie Walkie, and the Virgin Suicides score). If you like Air, you might also like Boards of Canada (whom I’ve recommended to Fred before, not sure if he’s checked them out). Their new album “The Campfire Headphase” is amazing, and their previous album “Geogaddi” is similarly awesome.

Ah good to be back online again with websites actually loading. Megatoyko is really good, didn’t imagine ever seeing Largo wanting to learn about woman, really good. On the note of music if you like quite mellow songs you should give ‘Round Here’ by Counting Crows and ‘Must Be Dreaming’ by Frou Frou a listen. Heard them on AMV Hell 3 (an anime music video the entire series is really good :D) and can’t get them out of ma head. Quite different from ma ordinary playlists containing Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake.
Anyways I’d better go an do some work. Keep up the good work an glad to here you an Sarah enjoyed your break, everyone needs one from time to time.

Hey-
I just wanted to say that you are an inspiration to me. I kinda fell out of who I am as an artist and you helped me find my way back. So thank you. I feel as If I should ask you some big and all consuming question- but I just can’t think of any that could sum up what I want to ask you. Anyway- I hope you are doing well and I wish you luck on future comics.

Another quality bit of Ambient / IDM you should check out is an artist called Ulrich Schnauss (Blumenweise neben Autobahn is one of his best I think, a bit more dance-y than his usual stuff though) and of course you can’t go wrong with a bit of Aphex Twin and his Selected Ambient Works II (Rhubarb is a great track).

A good friend of mine turned me onto this comic and boy- do I owe her. The artistry is amazing and the images convey much of your story to your readers as the wording. I am gonna have to buy a japanese dictionary though…. It’s one of the few languages I really cant grasp enough to understand by just hearing it.
As for music- I had Seti at on time. I think it got lost when I stored some stuff at a friends house and he got evicted 2 weeks later. His ex-landlord wouldnt give me any of my gear back. Jerk. Anyway- was a good album. Between that and Tangerine Dream, I used to drive people nuts sometimes.

Hang in there Piro. We love the character development you are doing. I’d rather sit through some dpd panels and enjoy a well crafted one than have you rush too fast with work you aren’t happy about. I can’t wait to see where this story-line is going to go.
Sometimes you just need to step away to understand the small things that matter.
Lavie and I just finished watching the anime DVD “The Place Promised in our Early Days”. It had a poetic beauty captured almost in vignettes. The way it captured the beauty in small things reminded us of the way you capture the beauty of the MT characters in the small elements you add.
Thank you for sharing!
