creative zones

Things are finally slowing down a little as we get closer to christmas… most people have done their online holiday shopping already, and with the exception of those who are willing to send stuff 2 day or next day air. I really would like to thank everyone who purchased stuff from our store this holiday season - after being down for almost a month in november, it was a relief to see people come back to the store :)

I’ve been doing a LOT of thinking about how i work recently. Even after five years of doing this, there is still a very haphazard nature to the way i work. It’s pretty evident sometimes that this nature really catches up to me on a regular basis, and one of my goals for next year is to try to improve on this. I have a series of goals i would like to attain for the new year, goals that i won’t make public because i don’t want to promise anything to people - these are goals i need to reach, and they are very difficult goals for me, and the last thing i need is to be harassed by certain types if i don’t reach them. :P

In the midst of how over the top busy i’ve been, it has been an interesting month creatively. Not that my output has been all that great, but the wide range of creative zones i have been in - from the ‘dead stop’ to ‘gliding along at full speed’. I like the later one, the first one is a bitch. :P The trick is to get into that later zone more often that i am now.

It was an OK year for Megatokyo, i think, but there’s no question i can do a lot better. In 2006 i’ll see what i can do to do that. :)

You have the Fate/Hollow Ataraxia OST already?!>@? Not nice Fred… taunting those of us who have to wait till SakuraCon and paying inflated sums just for our TypeMoon fix.

Speaking of which, will you be attending SakuraCon this year?

I’m liking the hair/power subtext you’ve put into the strip. What does Junko’s hair say about her?

Very smart Fred, demand friends or fans in your case is really vicious. I personally liked this year, the first year I was here for everything! But anyway good luck with your goals!

P.S. You should update the Fredart site you had so many cool pictures on your dead days! 8D

i am bored. megatokyo is creepy, i just started reading it this year, and i stumbled onto it, rather it stumbled onto me, many times, before i ever read it. I was in a bookstore in the mall one day and they had a big banner in the front of it of the mt3 cover, i didnt know it was mt first, it took me a few weeks, then i found a weird note in my locker, and it said something about megatokyo, but it was all wet and i couldnt read it, so i looked up megatokyo in google, and my browser froze, so i still didnt kno, then i was in the same book store with my friend claire, and the guy at the counter suggested i look at megatokyo, he said he liked it alot so i picked up #1, and then it clicked, mt was a manga so why did someone leave a nonte in my locker about it? then my mom called out for me and claire to leave, so i walked out puzzled, then we went to suncoast(video store in mall that also sells manga) and i picked up mt again and read a few pgs, then i saw your drawing of erika as kasumi from doa, and then i stared and said, no it cant be, thats weird a gamer made a manga?! cuz i noticed several neverwinter nights and quake references, and you cant forget mentioning of excel saga and air, then i realized you were my kind of people, i kept reading, and i bought it, hadnt read it for about a week though, and i was visiting a high school i might go to next year and someone walked up to me and said, look at her she looks like kimiko, i was wearing an outfit that looked remarkably like one of kimiko’s, i later found all this to be so creepy… there were lots of weird things about mt that sound like they are straight out of my life, like miho’s illness, 2 years ago, i almost died 2 years ago, i still have a fainting problem, but, whatever… i’m too lazy to list all of that kind of crap so …. bye bye! :)

Congratulations on the 800th comic. And Thank You! for everything so far.

Only, what, another 16 months or so to the big ten cubed?

Although I know these blocked periods are painful for you, they seem to be a positive thing, in that once they’re over, they seem to result in large jumps in the quality of your art and story. The current Megagamers arc has been wonderfull.

thankyou for working so hard on megatokyo. i appriciate that you work so hard to keep it alive. with all of the creative blocks i’m surprised you havent burst a lung. thankyou for bursting a lung for mt, and breaking a leg, and an arm, and er, your brain…

I’m running eight kids’ parties of building graham cracker gingerbread houses at three different schools for about 150 Japanese kids, as well as having written Christmas lessons for three different levels of childrens’ English curriculum, and despite everything working out reasonably well, all I can see is how I could have done it better and what my failures say about me as a person.

Sometimes, people need to step back at look at what they have accomplished in the past year, and admit to themselves that it actually was pretty durn good, no matter how many ways it seems like it could have been done faster, better, more efficiently.

I can imagine that you have as much trouble with that as I do. But it doesn’t mean there wasn’t some really fantastic work to look back on, as well as the things to work on, which maybe, for the holiday, you could set aside.

But it’s always easier to say to someone else than to do for yourself, isn’t it… ;)

it must be some sort of hell trying to work on this and a hundred other things at the same time. I hope to attempt this one day, but I have no skills that involve this type of stuff. I want to say a lot of things, things you’ve heard of from every corner of the world including stuff about Rodney Caston, the direction of the story, and the slight lack of stand alone humor that assualted me into reading you webcomic. So I won’t.

You should get some people to help you out, most likely fans so you don’t have to pay them, but that’s my opinion. I just hope you don’t have some kind of breakdown which causes you to do something horrible. ^_^

tsk tsk, i have no intention of getting any help for MT. why do people insist on trying to tell me how to tell my story?

ah well. I suppose the fact that most people aren’t happy with MT is no secret. we’ll see if they continue to be so next year. No help for it i guess.

My story, my project, there will be no help. I’m a recluse who does not work well with others, so i’d appreciate it if people would stop suggesting it :)
oh, happy holidays, and merry xmas stuff folks :)

Well I hope you’s all had a darn good christmas an I hope you’s all have a good new year too. I’ll be drunk so I expect you’s all to be as well, unless you’s are underage an stuff in that case go easy :p

MT has been really good I thought, although I only started reading it this year I’ve enjoyed it. Fred, we all have those feelings like we could’ve done better an ‘oh crap it was shite’. It’s what drives us to do better but take it from (although that doesn’t mean much :p) MT this year was really good an the story is gettin really interesting. Plus don’t have a breakdown or anything, if you think you need a break then take it. Better having a couple of weeks off than having a couple of months in the hospital it aint fun in those places, TV’s rubbish for starters an don’t get me started on what the class ‘food’ in there.

Bring on the new year: new MT, new games, new anime, more drink and more fun. Plus I might find out why some mates think I’m part Largo, part Piro (which is worrying in a way). So in case I don’t say anything until next year, ENJOY YOURSLEF’S!! Happy New Year!!
