rendered characters
God i hate accounting. I’m so glad Seraphim is the one who has to do it (She won’t let me touch anything important anymore because of my tendency towards VooDoo Acounting methods) Even so, i do my best to help. Funny how just about every error ends up being result of something i did wrong. ^^;; Without Seraphim, the IRS would have ‘rendered’ me to a black site for people with really bad accounting habits long ago.
Speaking of headaches, i am getting some complaints about recent comics where more casual readers are kinda lost as to what is going on because they are dealing with some characters that don’t show up a lot — Yuuki’s dad Masamichi, mention of her mom Meimi and her brother Yuuji, her ex-fiance Masamichi… yeah, i can see how that might be confusing if you haven’t been paying a lot of attention. I think i need to do a quick mention of these folks in a rant and accept the fact that i really need to pull together a character guide. Even i need to keep character and episode guides to keep things straight sometimes. ^^;;

Oh come on Fred, the confusion is part of the fun of MegaTokyo. It’s one of the reasons I’m an avid reader. Without confusion it… well, it just wouldn’t be appealing, now would it?

Honestly its true. If I hadn’t read the books I’d be a little lost as well. Some characters don’t appear as much as others. Its hard going back and forth to older strips to find out who some people are. I could see how that would be confusing to new readers. That aside, I agree with romstop up there. You have a lot of fans. Someone must have did a decent character analysis already. Ask to link to their’s or something. Save time so you can concentrate on your strips. S4w33t!

New readers? Why haven’t they gone out to buy Vol 1-3 or read through the history? That’s what I had to do
Actually, I read’m online first and THEN got the books… I enjoyed it enough to want to “help the cause”. *shrug*
On another note, I was talking to another reader about the recent appearance of Yuuki’s dad… it’s been such a short time in the scheme of the story that we’ve seen him yet it’s been months in real life time - and that’s without very many DPD! Sorta neat how that works out, IMHO.

You could always link to the wikipedia article on megatokyo characters….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_Megatokyo
Or you could take a record on what strip they apear and put a side note with a link to that strip….It would be kind of hard and time demanding (I Think)…

You mean Yuki, not Yuuki, right? And Erika’s ex-fiance Hitoshi? Cripes, not even the creator can keep everybody straight ;P

It took me a while to understand who Hitoshi was, then all of a sudden it clicked! But yes, a little guide might be useful!
And a picture of Hitoshi *COUGH HINT HINT COUGH* could put some readers at ease, since we haven’t seen him yet. That was the part that got me.

Really? People are confused. Thats odd, I have no trouble comprehending it at all.
Oh by the way, I am completely blown away by the level of skill in the latest comics. It takes me 5 minutes to read each comic because I stare at each picture in awe. I myself am an artist and I can see or guess how each picture is drawn and its amazing. It’s like I can feel the joy the artist gets when he draws each picture.
Err..
Then again thats probably because I reread megatokyo and read through the beginning parts
The art is great and the story is becoming very interesting. ^.^

You could start a wiki; everybody’s doing it, come on! PiroWiki or somesuch nonsensical name.

I agree with Xiayi.
Although, I actually don’t have any problems with who people are XD lol
I often go back and reread things just for kicks or for informational purposes, but genereally, I can follow the story quite well.
Keep up the awesome stuff, Piro!
We love you!

Hey, this isn’t really about megatokyo (but I love the comic!!) … I just found an error on the last page after the ‘Envelope’ story (I was reading the english version, I don’t know if it’s in both)… the “o” is left off the link to megatokyo.
The URL is http://www.fredart.com/envelope/credits-e.html
…sorry for nitpicking!

I know you don’t like the idea of doing character guides, because of the nature of trying to sum up a whole complex character in a few words, but all you really need is a way for people to put names to faces and avoid common misconceptions (possibly a Sonoda family tree and guide to who is in which class).

Honestly… whether its Megatokyo, LOTR, or Moby Dick — if they can’t bother to follow the storyline or figure out who the characters are….. it is hard to have much sympathy. But yeah… I guess a character page — no real personality data …just who’s related to who.
