so bad
Well, i was bad yesterday. I hate to admit it. I was doing so well too, keeping busy and making really good progress on my goals and to do lists of 2006. Granted, it’s a lot like trying to empty the ocean with a bucket, but i’ve been getting really wet lately and it’s been fairly gratifying.
Yesterday Seraphim and I went shopping, and it was actually a nice, non-work related day. Nothing wrong with that, but after making dinner rather than getting my butt upstairs to get to work on the comic, i sat in my chair and read manga for the remainder of the evening. >_< I had a backlog of things i wanted to read, and i had picked up a few books, one of which i have been looking forward to reading, the others i just read because.
I don’t know why i pick up Ultra Maniac anymore, the story is just so poorly told compared to the skill with which Yoshitsumi-sensei delivered the Marmalade Boy story… i guess its a kind of loyalty, and a visual liking of the manga. It’s ok, even if it makes my teeth ache sometimes. Still hoping it gets better
The real suprise of the past year for me was discovering Chikyu Misaki by Iwahara Yuji. I love this little manga for some reason. It’s cute, its different, there’s a lot of character in the characters, and… i dunno, i just really like it. With so much chaff to sort through on the manga shelves these days, if you are looking for something different that doesn’t stand out, try it. I’m also going to look into tracking down some of his more current books, mainly Ibara no O (which for some reason seems to be available from TokyoPop Germany, but not here >_<)
Ugh. Need to get to work on my own comic here, so i’ll do that. It’s amazing how just getting one day sorta off can throw things right back into ‘agh, i’m so behind’ mode. Maybe the idea of being ahead was just a fantasy anyways ^^;;
hey, everyone needs a little fantasy, right?

yeah, I saw you two at the store last night. I thought about saying something, but I figured the last thing you needed on a day off was some sweaty otaku stalker talking to you. I mean, really, my options were quite limited:
1. sq33! I really love your work!
2. Will you guys be my friends? Can my S.O. and I take you out to lunch? I think we have a lot in common!
3. Here, take this gift card!
4. Hey, you know this guy’s stuff is pretty good [points to Mt#1]
Finally, I realized that I was stuck with #5: “I’m a totally creepy stalker” since I had been standing around looking uncomfortable clutching vol 14 of Oh My Goddess for about ten minutes, and that couldn’t possibly be good, so I left.
My S.O. thought it was cute when I told her about it.
Here’s to personal space!
-r.
p.s. I really had figured out some clever ways to say #’s 1-4, but the sentiment is essentially the same, stripped of fancy words. Lord knows you need personal space as much as the next fellow, particularly since you were doing something fun on your time off. I mean, do you really need more people accosting you and trying (failing) to impress you with their wittiness?
Truthfully, running into you in the manga section is kind of like running into Neil Gaiman in the Fantasy/SF section, or Sue Grafton in mysteries.

Kate and I broke down and finally bought another book shelf. We had totally run out of space for the stuff we had. It’s amazing how much crap you can fit in one apartment.

I was roaming the manga section of my local B&N last night as well… ran across something that I *think* Fred or Dom had mentioned… Tokyopop edition of Dramacon (by Svetlana) #1 …. reminded me of early MT a bit (don’t know why - no similarity in art or storyline). Since everything gave me a headache to look at, I picked it up.
It actually isn’t too bad. Its written from a girl’s point of view (author is la girl) and is “anime con slice of life relationship drama”. I’d almost recommend teenage guys read it for a “see, this is how NOT to SCREW it up and DON’T ACT LIKE THAT, act like the other”
Anyway… it’ll be interesting to see what she can do with the story. This is the first “american” manga besides MT that hasn’t made me irritated and grumpy.
