As you probably read on my rant on Megatokyo this morning, I’m having to put Megatokyo on hold for two weeks as i try to hammer my way through the book preparation and take a trip to Seattle with the MegaGear store. I was really hoping to not have to do something like this but the way things fell out, i sort of had no choice. Anyways, i hope MT readers are patient. Trust me, i’d rather be doing the comics for the tail end of this chapter than the grunt work of processing book files.
The nice thing about it is that it is kind of refreshing to have full control over all the decisions that result in the final frame. All sorts of little tweaks and nudges that i can make that would not be made if i had someone else doing it. Of course, i have no idea if readers will even notice these kind of things, but hey - the book is forever. Once it’s out, its out. Better to get it right the first time, and i really want this thing to come out on time in June.
The DPD drawings will be nice little breaks - the one i posted today took about 2 hours and was a refreshing break from processing. I don’t have a specific theme i’m going to follow here, but you might see a pattern if you look closely.
I am nervous about hitting my deadline, i wont lie to you. Very nervous, even with the break. If i pull all this off, the book should come out really nice tho, and the stress of getting it done will be a distant memory when the book finally surfaces.
I’ll actually provide a more detailed write up of what i have to do to process the files at some point in the future. Its kinda neat, really, and can give others an idea of what to expect if they ever try to push their work to print format.

Good luck! I know you’ll pull it off. ^_^
I definitely look forward to your more detailed write-up of the process that you go through to get your comics to print. Though I haven’t come close to starting my own comic yet, the knowledge will definitely come in handy.
Best to you in hitting your deadline. I’m pretty bad at deadlines myself, but hey, just keep looking for that nice, shiny reward. And the DPDs I like alot too, since seeing other sketches from you outside of MT don’t happen often, and for good reason ^^;

Take the time you, need. Don’t let your head explode
I’d say “Don’t worry about the two week hiatus” but you’ll ignore that advice, ne? Enjoy Sakuracon, sadly I won’t be there this year. You’ll have to survive w/o me dropping by to annoy you. As always, I’m enjoying the comic. -Best wishes
It’s amazing how many little things one must do to put together a finished product such as a book. Hell, most people have no idea all the things that need to be done to put together a CD. I know I’m certainly looking forward to book 4.
honestly, I can’t say I’m looking forward to two updateless weeks, but DPD’s aren’t bad, and I can’t wait for book 4. Plus, I got a con this weekend, so I don’t get to complain about a lack of new media! Rakka’s English VA’ll be there. Thought she did a pretty good job, so I’ll be getting her autograph.
I’m looking forward to the more detailed write-up of the final processing of the online manga for publication in paper form. I think the whole thing is pretty fascinating.
RE: the two-week gap on Megatokyo: hey, I won’t say I wasn’t a bit bummed about it, but I completely understand. You gotta take care of the business-side (the convention) and the hard-copy publishing side of things. Those both take time and energy. It’s not like we can extend time or anything.
Plus, I really love the three bound paper versions of Megatokyo. I enjoy just pulling them off of the bookshelf and readig through them (currently, Megatokyo is shelved between my Ghost in the Shell books and my copies of Genshiken (both very good company for Megatokyo in my eyes at least). So, anyway, I have an interest in the fourth volume being as good as possible!
Chris
Personally, I love your DPD sketches! And I can hardly wait for the 4th book to come out! I have the Dark Horse versions of the first 3. I wish I could afford to go to cons. But even ones that happen here in the Pacific North West are too far away and too expensive for me, an unemployed starving college student, to attend.
I think you need to hire an assistant.
I think everyone is cool with it.
well, can’t wait for t3h fourth to come out… hope you get it done!
I’m loving the DPD’s you’ve sent out so far this week. great work.
———-
is it just me and my connection, or are the forums down? i can’t even open the page…
———-
anyways,
good luck with megatokyo, t3h DPD’s, and such, Fred.

quick question: will these DPD’s be in the book?
I suspect the forums have gone south for Spring Break …. hopefully on purpose for some thoroughly needed pressurespray washing
Pure speculation but the two week downtime would be a marvelous time for that (except for all those people in those other subforums).
Actually, Nayuki seems to be down and sleeping for some reason - our admin will be over there in a few hours to look into it (he got caught in a flash flood yesterday and his car was inundated, so he’s using alternative means to get over to the colo ^^;;)
I’m glad to hear about this new book comming out soon-ishy. I am sure you will work hard on it and make it great so do not worry about the web comic for awhile. These books are more permanent than those weekly posts you know.
I enjoyed both DPDs, though Erika’s hands need to be able to cover her face to be big enough.
I have greatly enjoyed your MT Comic for quite some time now. You’ve pulled through the hardest things thus far. You can do it!
(btw… been spreading the word across Minharo.. more readers sometime in the future)
My hands sure aren’t big enough to cover my face. I think the drawing is fine.
safe journey on the trip tomorrow, sorry I won’t be able to make the con this year.
sidenote: In your uttermost evil, you mentioned Kashimashi a while back… I read the premise and thought “O bleh…. probably fan service hijinks”. Since several of my other series are stalled at the moment, I downloaded the first 3 eps out of annoyed boredom.
I couldn’t have been more wrong about a series.
So far the first five eps have been well-written, compelling, and actually treated the fantastic situation with hardly any farce … wow. Okay.. teacher is fairly team-rocket annoying so far… and mom seems really too mild with “happily perv dad” but the main meat of the story is just great. His best male friend has reacted pretty maturely, his best female friend is having realistic flipflops… so ….. dammit, you’ve done it to me again. Hopefully the show doesn’t have a trainwreck ending in store for us.
Wow never written in one of these…uh i love megatokyo and your work, don’t stress about the deadlines your DPD are great, love the latest one’s! ^_^
Have fun at sakuracon too (god i wish i lived in america…no japan!)
I’m trying to start a webcomic, god help me if i ever get there (so much coursework…)
Anyway just keep doing what your doing and have fun!
I just wanted to say thanx and keep up the good work! I know you’ll make it! and thanx for continuing to draw MT, i’ve hit some pretty hard things, and this is one of the main things keeping me alive. *smile* Among friends and cupcakes!
I love the DPD’s! I’m realy looking forward to seeing the finished product that will be #4. I just discovered your work a few months ago and I
“quick question: will these DPD’s be in the book?”
OH MY GOD BY ALL THINGS HOLY WHAT DID YOU DO TO PING?!?!?!?!?!
*staring at DPD sketch, mouth agape at the beauty and alltogether AWESOMENESS!*
Oh, WOW… There are no words left in my vocabulary. I FRICKIN LOVE YOU!!!!
…don’t let my boyfriend know I said that…
Luck and Love from a crazed fangirl,
