Today was a big day because i finished everything but one item on my big huge nastly list of things to do for the book. That one remaining item, of course is 3.5 pages of Circuity art as well as the scanning and assembly and reworking of everything i’ve done so far (yes, i am completely and totally screwed on my Thursday deadline, but luckily there is a tad of flex in it and these pages when finished can be dropped into the quark file quickly on monday so as to not delay things too horribly). Oh well, at least i enjoy working on this thing, and it’s looking pretty good. Stuff like this is fun, all the little nitpicky crap you have to do when publishing a book is not.
I’ll try to do a quick little update rant for the MT site tomorrow morning, before i dive into the last drawings. It’s been a fsking insane month. I’m tired, desperately need a break (even if it is just getting back to my normal schedule
but overall i’m pretty happy. The book is looking pretty good, and I’m quite happy with the direction the circuity re-write has taken. It has shed all the mechanics of the Haibane Renmei and evolved along lines that are more in tune with my own thoughts and concepts. The metaphoric constructions are now far better suited to my ideas than the Haibane structure was really capable of supporting. Neat stuff, i might do more with it in the future too.
In regards to the Two Weeks DPD auction that ended on Sunday… uhm, i don’t really know what to say. Realistically i was thinking i might get 2k or so for the whole batch if people responded well to them. I, uh, didn’t expect it to top 10k. Man. It makes you wonder. I’m not going to infuriate you with my normal self deprecating blather about it because im too tired to get into circular arguments with myself. I’m way too tired for that tonight. I’m also quieted by the fact that the people who bid on all of these have all communicated with me about why they wanted these drawings and why they felt they were worth what they were willing to spend. So, out of respect for them, i’m going to try not to chew on myself about it
Back to work on Circuity. Should be a fun couple of days.

Sounds kool about the Circuity section in book 4 im looking forward to it. Lol I just realized you can post comments on here. I don’t want to waste much of ur time so im heading off to the megagear store.
Gl hf^^
I’m sorry to hear about you being behind on your book, but glad it isn’t that far behind. I just wanted to wish you luck and cheer you on on all the hard work you have been doing latley.
I’m amazingly excited for the Circuity re-do. I’d buy the fourth book even if that were all it contained.
not only $10K, but -three- of them were won by -one- person. I’m starting to feel downright clever about the two drawings -I- won
Value is an interesting thing. As I mentioned way back when, a lot of things go into it. It’s hard to put a value on feeling like a part of MT in such an intimate way as having one of the actual drawings. It’s enhanced even further knowing the money is going into MT. Whenever I go to the site I get a warm feeling for my part in setting up my goddaughter Makoto. That’s pretty special.
I woulda bid, but there’s no way I could’ve even made a real attempt to get them(starving college student syndrome). But I’m definitely buying the 4th book when it comes out!
AG Lite reminds me of newspaper comics.

Randomness is good, I think (?). Thought I’d say something about those nice guys over at AG. After all, they’re pretty nice to Mr. Gallagher.
Hmm, my post didn’t go through…(yet?)
Well, glad you’re getting it done. Can’t wait to see it.

ugh. I wish I had some extra cash, because I would’ve pitched in alot to try and get the drawings in the auction.
I cant believe it though. 10k ?!!!
Thats awesome. Very strong fanbase, neh?
OMG, 10k that’s alot of dough Fred-sempai. I hope you use it well. I retract my previous question about intertwining MT with AppleGeeks, recent comics on both of your sites have answered my question. I can’t wait for the revised Circuity.

I absolutely can’t wait for the Book 4 release that you are working so dilligently on. It’s also great to read a rant from you in the midst of this process that you are enjoying. I’m especially enjoying the Applegeeks/MT crossovers, since I avidly read both ^^ I was wondering that in the later books, would the AG comics be included as well? That would be really awesome if that were the plan.
Well, as always, ganbatte, Gallagher-san! You are indeed a lasting inspiration to me ^^
@Alexiel: AG in the books will not happen. 1, not part of the real MT story, 2, Fred couldn’t, legally.
–> sorry for t3h double post.

not unless he was given specific permission. but it doesn’t fit anyways, being color.
Newspaper indeed; AG Lite 002…
Still wish I could share my ideas with AG + MT peoples…
*sigh*
Gave that up a few months ago, though.
Now I wanna know how hawk and fred….
Not double-posting, technically; previous person was Somebody Else.^^
I figured Largo would like this.

…Just alittle something about self-cooling beer cans…
@Brendon:
Yeah, that is true about the legality of it all. I knew the color would be a problem, but perhaps Hawk still has the inks. I’d save them before coloring them.
Either way, it’s great to be a part of it in the web version.
I agree with Alexiel. It would be kick’n to include the AG guest strips with all due permission, but I think I could stand having it change up a bit with having colored. If it’s possible to get the strips sans color, that’s fine too. Hawk/Annath could potentially add them into one of their books; just an idea.
Hope things are moving along for you Fred!
In my oppinion the guest strips as well as the strips from AG should be in the print verson. There a aside to the story and should have there place. I don’t think it be that big of a deal for the AG guys, more press and all that. On the issue with color, it wouldn’t really matter (though black & white would be muched perfered).
Jinto
well…. I always wait til the checks clear the bank before I get tooooo excited. But gratz on the auction results. I thought about bidding but by the time I looked it had already passed the $1000 mark. Unfortunately, my home remodel budget came first
It would really be nice if you could work something out with the AG folks and your publisher to include the crossover strips into the next volume. They really are nice and fit right into the continuity. I’ve been a fan of AG from the start…
Sounds like you’re eyeball deep, but I hope you’ve set aside 1.5 hours to watch Haruhi Suzumiya 1-3. It is stellar stuff.
I read your bloging on the MT page today, and I was stricken suddenly with a drive to answer; Here is the olny place to do that, I belive.
My compellation was induced by the sentiment you exerted twords the idea of printing black and white. I’m encourageing you.
Personally, I belive the charm of your art comes from the black and white. The vast magority of MT is done in black and white, and it has sort of imbued itself to my view of your artstyle- In a way I would buy. Something about it is more charming, more sincere then bedazzleing color images wowing the reader with every page.
So, put out prints, keep ‘em in the original MT style, and I’ll snag a few. Keep it comeing Fred, good work!

I think what it is about MT is that Fred-sans pencial work looks like charcoal works. That directly contrast with the fact that your looking at it on a computer moniter, it works wonders.

Sometimes, black and white art speaks volumes more then color. You have talent Fred. Accept it. And you have fans and they love your work.
The four drawnings got to me and it has been a long time since I have been moved by art. Having studied works of art in art school, I got desensitized to it after having to pick it apart. These works, spoke to me in ways I never thought. Hell, I showed my grandmother what I wanted to own and even she could see what was being portrayed and I did not even have to give her much back story.
I did not win any of the pieces and that hurts my heart. (My husband actually bought me a Miho blanket so I would feel better.) But with all this being said, give your fans more credit. I’m printing these four out and hanging them on my wall till you give me something that I can give you money for.
I am a totally random person looking at your pics on Google and i’d just like to say WOW you are the best drawer in the world keep drawin them and i’ll keep putting them up on my walls!
