nervous postings
As you may have guessed, i was a little nervous of posting monday’s Megatokyo strip. Why? A bath scene with Pirogoeth in it, you figure it out. ^^;; I’m sure that many people are going to think i have, like, major issues or something, but you have to remember that this is a comic, this is a story, and frankly there ARE some very disturbing themes surrounding the whole Endgames experience and the impact it had on Piro, Largo and Miho. Something like this is opening the proverbial pandoras box, but that’s ok - i’m not afraid to take risks like this, no matter how nervous they make me feel
When i do ‘fanservice’ i do it for a reason.
Fsking massively busy day today, so much to do. i feel good about the comics right now, which is a relief — i spent most of the time while working on the book still not happy with how vague things were coming together. That’s all worked out now, so i’m much happier… even if i am overloaded.
Someone sent me a link to this today. He was right, it made me wonder if it really was a joke. ^^;;

Disturbing? Yes, but it adds weight to the whole Endgames/Miho’s manipulations plot, and deepens the interaction between Piro/Largo/Miho that you showed ages ago when she revealed herself. I’m in favor of things that add weight.
As to fanservice? Meh, I wouldn’t say that it was fanservice-y at all. More real-ish than anything else. Call it literary. Oh, and the rubber ducky for the win.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the scene and you shouldn’t be nervous about it. It conveys the vulnerability of the moment and intensity…it has a purpose. To me, ‘fanservice’ has no real purpose and tends to be overdone so much it’s annoying to those who are following the story for reasons other than fanservice.
So, don’t worry about it. As far as I’m concerned, you use different elements to tell a real story and you do this very well.
Oh, I’m happy to see that you back to blogging on this site more! Although, I know it can be hard sometimes to blog on a regular basis. Good luck with your schedule for the week!

Mondays strip was tastefully done and contriputes to the story, i.e. not fanservice in the truest sense.
I find that link to be histarical. True l33t could be used for evil means, but I just don’t see it happening. They don’t even point out a case of l33t being used for these “dangerous” intentions. If they had it would have given them creditably.

I agree with the others that today’s(Monday’s) strip wasn’t strictly fanservice, but was well and tastefully done and contributes to the story. It’s not like you were teasing the male fans with the possiblity of the towel falling and revealing T &/or A.
l337 just isn’t that hard to decipher, if you actually try. If you need a translator or dictionary, you’re either lazy or stupid. I don’t use it much for the simple reason that sometimes it takes longer to type(replacing some letters with numbers of symbols isn’t too hard, but I’ve had conversations where there have been less than 5 real letters in a sentence. that takes some effort!). Criminals would be more likely to lie about their ages than to use the nigh-indecipherable 1337.

#852 … very well done .. I’d hardly call it “fanservice” though pirogoeth looks quite charming.
Makes the Miho-Piro relationship even more fascinating and perhaps why she can’t let go.
“Endgames” must have been *some* freaking beautiful MMO (though being able to PvP-punt an “allied” b3k3 is an even better game function than any bathtaking or romance implied here)
… as a parent, your link to the noble reporting of dastardly 1337 appalled.. yes, appalled me. But not for the reasons the scumbag anxiety faux-news station might think. There’s a reason I don’t watch much American “news” anymore and this is a poster child for it. Ignorant reporting coupled with focus on anxiety-producing-stay-tuned -through-the-commercial-break-after-this-hook.

First post, better make it good…
First off, the strip. The not-even-close-to-nudity isn’t that bad. If somebody has a problem with it, they don’t have to look at the strip (notice there are no ribbons in the guy’s hair). Kudos for the ducky and largo in the background though.
As for 1337, being a kid, i don’t see why anyone would use it to send s3cr37 messages. (it’s cooler to make up your own :P) I guess it’s just the media putting a spin on things.

Sorry about the double (or triple?) post. New to this…

It’s always interesting to see how you suffer from both writer’s doubt and artist’s doubt. Since I can only write, my association with the latter is academic, but the former…well, it’s my daily bread and butter.
Frankly, I did find today’s panel disturbing but more because of what it says about the challenges we as a society will face as our emotional investment in the cyber-sphere increases. When sense of self becomes more melded to the virtual than the real, suddenly disturbing new possibilities emerge.
As a story element, I thought it was great. Definitely a depth-adding twist.
Summary, you’re doing fine. Keep going. But the doubts never stop, sorry.
