There i go again, ignoring my blogs and rants as i dive into other things. I spent most of yesterday working on chapter 8 development. Putting together a megatokyo rant right now (part of which actually started here, but i figure i might as well rant about writing megatokyo on the megatokyo site
As a whole, Chapter 7 was ok, but i’m really hoping to make chapter 8
People are finding MT volume 4 in the wild, and so far the response seems to be good - the books really should be in stores in ernest next week, and i need to get my promotional butt together and start pimping those books
Our order is in, but it will still be a week or so before we get them in the MegaGear store.
Yesterday i went into Comp USA and looked at some of the headphones they had there, and i was sorely tempted to pick up a pair of Shure E3c headphones, but… i just couldn’t bring myself to drop $180 on headphones, not right now. Also, there is the issue that (from what i read) you really don’t hear the difference in these better headphones until you get to the E4c, which start to push $300… I dont know, i just can’t justify paying big money for headphones that i usually only wear in one ear most of the time. I figure i’ll just make due with my Sony Fontopias for now.

just stopin by to ask if your ever gonna put any new sketches in your sketchbook. I keep entering your website in hope of finding a new sketch stareing at me but keep ending up dissapointed. I was also wondering how many chapters you plan on making in megatokyo. Do you have a sort of fealing on how many there will be or do you plan on making a certian number. Ive been reading megatokyo for a while and its always been a pleasure to come home after a long day at school and see if theres anything new going on in largo or piros life. Last weeks comics were especially awsome =D though I still miss seing largo and piro being together. keep up the good work fred. :]
aw %#^$% I said it wrong (stupid me). I meant THIS WEEKS comic was awsome, hehehehe, sry guys =\
o sweet I was the first one to comment weeeee =P

Congratulations on the end of chapter 7. What a tremendous finish! Wow.
re: headphones
Where are you reading about hearing a difference with the E4c? I would have thought that the quality celing would be reached before the 300$ mark. Not having the cash to particpate at that level (or at the 120$+ level, really) I’m rather not believe that there is a difference.

MEGATOKYO MISS PRINT:
I’m posting this letter here on the fredart blog, and I sent it to piro@megatokyo.com as well as the guys over at
cd/cmx - askeditors@dccomics.com (I don’t know if thats the right place to send a letter like this) hope to get a hold of someone asap.
Dear Fred,
I purchased your book Megatokyo vol. 4 today while at Barnes & Noble and when I got home and done a quick skim through it, I realized that
pages 113 thru 128 is printed upside down with those…ahhh…color boxes/profs and the speech bloons are cut off at the top of those upside
down pages as well, making it impossible to read.
I enjoy your book, I have got all four book now ^_^ and I have been reading your comic from the start - I would appreciate if you can
correct the problems and if anything send me a new copy of the book once corrections are solved…if you need me to, I’ll send the vol. 4
copy that I have right now.

Hey Piro, I really liked the way you ended this chapter. Truthfully, I didn’t even notice how long it was. However, your MT rant’s timestamp seems to be a bit off. It says June, 15th 2006 13:39 Even though today is the 23rd. Also, I think I’ll go have a look at the local B&N and see if a) MT volume 4 is here yet and b) to see if Aaron’s problem is in that one too.
To “Raa’Shaun H.”
No, Fred just emailed me and its just my copy.
Sorry
Oddly enough the E2Cs are better than the E3Cs according to everyone I work with.
I’d recommend the ]Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 EB (Extended Bass) White Earphones first honestly … As before Froogle is your friend as you don’t allow links. The Apple stores sells them for about $200 …
I once had a pair of E2Cs, and they were definitely of far better quality than the stock headphones that come with any player (and even some similarly priced cans). To my untrained ears, the difference from E2C to E3C was perceptable, but barely (and you’d need high quality lossless files to tell). the E4Cs are pretty much wasted on anything but a high-end dedicated headphone amplifier.
For simple audio on the move, I can also reccomend the ER6i (or ER6 depending on the amount of bass required), and for home listening the DT231 (they’re smaller than most closed cans so may feel shightly odd, but deliver incredible sound for the price).
The nice thing about the shure’s is that they are designed with studio performance in mind. I have a pair of the cheaper $100 ones, in ear buds. What I’ve been impressed by is all the subtleties you can hear. It really helps when I’m recording…
But if your looking for phat bass and what not, you may want to look elsewhere. And remember, half of the battle is the system that is driving your phones. So if you have really high quality phones and a really low quality source. Pretty much a waste of money.
(FRED-SAMA! VOLUME FOUR IS AMAZING! YOU’RE SO AWESOME! …is that a cookie?)
Okay, now that idiot-fangirl-allison-chan is done, I can talk again.
I purchased Volume Four at a Borders bookstore on June 17th. The only copy. I am so blessed! (XD) I have the first three volumes by Darkhorse. Love them to death.
I have to say a few things about Volume Four now.
The expanded version of “Circucity”… It was neither good nor bad. Wait, I take it back, it was GREAT, I loved the story the first time, and reading it a second time made me cry. (really, it did, no joke.) But I didn’t notice any major improvements over it. It was a tad longer, and it was nice to see the Erika/Largo relationship, and the flow was a bit better, but it still took a second and third read through to get the story as a whole. I am not saying this is bad. I am saying it didn’t need it, but it was a nice addition for the printed edition.
Kimiko’s translation… I approve.
Your earlier comment about the art in comparison to the first three volumes is completely true. I love the fact that I can go back and see how well your art has progressed and improved.
(In fact, the second-last comic in chapter seven blew me away. Piro’s and Kimiko’s expressions were spot-on. Breathless when I read Piro… “” Damn, Fred. You are fsking amazing.)
Junpei on the !STOP! page. Very nice.
The cover was very nice. I loved the colors used and it flowed well with the green background. The most crowded cover to date: Seraphim, Boo, Asmodeus, and Belphie. ^-^
So, who’s next on the cover?
(Please tell me its Junpei and Zilla! PleaseohpleasohpleasepleasePLEASE!!!!!!)
Luck and love from a crazed fangirl.

As to your rant on megatokyo, It would be of interest to many megatokyo fans to see all your ideas. Stupid or great, its always comforting to see the bare-bones of a successful production.
Even though I’m some what of an audiophile myself (go figure being a musician), I tend to get cheap cans for every day listening. That way I’m not angry if they get screwed up or lost. I have enough expensive toys as it is.
fred u have inspire me to draw as great as u. for tat i say thanku for tat if i never had read megatokyo and become awe with the fantastic effort tat u put into ur drawins than my dreaming day to be a mangaka would have ended. thank u so much and for my appreciation i drew a megatokyo character of my own. shes similar to the girl in warmth but i hope tat u lke it. to see it go to http://www.myspace.com/wingsxdontxfail
and u can tell me if u like it or not there. but u gotta have a myspace account.
oh and before u go there click on the the word “Pics” to view the drawing. itll say “prom”
Zali,
I’m a little wary of anything marked “studio performance”. Some truly aweful studio monitors have been sold over the years, usually with too little high end and too little bass in order to get people to over compensate when mixing down tracks. There was one model that was everwhere in the 80’s that led to some truly aweful post-disco thumpa-thumpa mixing. (Sorry, can’t remember the name, just the fad.)
Thanks to everyone else who chimed in about their experiences with the different model headphones, btw. It’s really hard to do blind ABx testing on headphones (because you almost always can figure out which set you are wearing), so even anecdotal evidence is better than nothing.
