schedule craziness

Yknow, it’s almost irritating. No matter how hard i try to arrange things so that i’m not up against it before i go to a convention, no matter how hard i try to plan ahead, to work ahead, it never fails - it always turns into a panic situation. Granted, i tend to be rather ambitious about what i think i can do in a given amount of time (realism never seems to enter the equation when it comes to me and planning) but still - it’s almost getting to be comedic.

It’s not quite as bad as it usually is - i’m certainly better off than i have been a few days before other trips, but that doesnt mean i’m not facing an intimidating amount of things to do before i leave. The biggest challenge, really, is to produce two comics today. As you know, most comics take me an entire day to do, and i usually only finish them early if i have nothing else on my plate. For some reason i am thinking i can mix in a number of things today AND work on two comics and be able to dive into a number of other things tomorrow… heh, i never learn :)

Good news is that the poster that Hawk and I have been working on (mostly Hawk over the past few days) is just about done and it looks really sweet. I’m thinking that we’ll post that next monday as a DPD. If all goes well today, we’ll have comics tomorrow and wednesday, and i’ll let Dom wrap up everyone’s week with a little fear and loathing on friday. That’s the plan, and the only real weak part of it is Wednesday’s comic.

with that in mind, i should get to work. :)

    not another SGD
i think i may kill myself :| well not really but you get my point =P

I can’t be the only one in the world that actually enjoys the utter randomness and total hilariousness that is the SGD strips.

    Can I?

heh, well that whole challenge thing is a part of life i guess.

oh well, if you miss wednesdays comic we (well i) wont hold it against you. but its cool that your planning ahead and it seems like your starting to get more control on MT.

anyways good luck and have fun at the cons.

Man, I wish I could make it down to ComicCon this year…dammit, this will be two in a row I’ve missed (I was on the other side of the planet in the Arabian Gulf this time last year). I’ll have to send one of my lackeys (read: former roommates) to buy a poster or three and mail them up to me to make up for it.

FWIW, after I moved up to Sacramento, the Broken Miho poster was the first thing I broke out, and has returned to its place of honor right above my computer desk. :)

  6. Greyscribe says:

My Broken Miho poster is on my office wall beside a printed copy of “Dreams” by Langston Hughes. The juxtaposition seems rather fitting to me.

LAGL, you are not alone. Although SGD days are one of the Signs of the Impending Apocalypse, I enjoy the Brownian motion they inject into my life.

[G, J--they all look the same to me. My apologies for the typo, LAJL.]

If you can’t get a Wednesday comic up because of con prep, I for one won’t hold it against you. I also find SGD strips at least somewhat amusing, but then I’m prolly nearly as odd as Dom presents himself to be though I’m not a gamer(that’ll prolly change once I can afford a console and some games that I can kill things in) and I prefer blades and bombs to guns.
Oh, and since I’m employed now, I might be able to afford a scanner before the end of summer. Which means I’ll be able to subject the world to my art. If I start a webcomic, it’ll be because MT inspired me.

I’m finally commenting now because the last post on here has reminded me that when you’re a creator, the people who like your stuff are the ones who are drowned out by all those who don’t. I love MT and have the utmost respect for you.

I don’t go on the MT forums because, well… they’re scary. Tales of woe abound. When something mindboggling happens in the comic, I’ll pop over to see how other people are handling it, because most of the users are so overanalytical that I can usually glean some insight.

But just because it’s mindboggling doesn’t mean it’s bad, or stupid, or a sudden way of trashing a fantastic work of art and storytelling. Why would you spend years crafting this exquisite thing just to throw it all away on something cheap? I trust you. And I’ve yet to see reason not to. If anything, MT’s ’strange turns’ are a reason to keep reading.

I’ve never understood the people who complain about your posting schedule. We get to read the comic for free in real time (as fast as you can draw them). That wouldn’t have been possible fifteen years ago. You have a life, and if that means a smattering of SGDs and DPDs (Wednesday’s is AMAZING…!) then I’m happy just to see an update and know that you’re not actually dead. Boo hoo, Fred can’t churn out comics every day like a superhuman. Go to the con and forget them. Take your pleasures where you can.

Screw the harpies. They don’t understand how much work you do and they certainly don’t appreciate the intense forethought you put into these things. If you alienate some along the way, more’s the better. More bandwidth for the rest of us! :D
(And sic the conscience brigade on ‘em! I miss them!!)

i must admit i read the entire MT archive in a week at work instead of doing my job (oops). but we need SGDs just to remind us what kind of terror we would be subjected to if we didn’t have MT to read. and DPDs are fantastic artwork so i don’t mind oggling them either. i’m intending to keep my ear to the ground for the next UK con. this time i’ll be there… hopefully.

I’m a huge fan of yours and I spend every week impatiently waiting for the next updates of megatokyo that I love so dearly. Your art is so amazing, but what i like best are your in depth plots and the strength and depth there is to each and every one of your characters! I love this series so much, I hope it will never end. Well, I mean, I know everything ends eventually but it’s just so darn good! And the balance of serious/humor is just right! Please, whatever you do, never stop drawing and sharing your talent with the world and your fans! Anyway, thats pretty much it! Keep up the amazing work!

  15. vexx says:

And of course, there’s author of Zebragirl whose basic response to naysayers is:

“F**K YOU!!! Send me G**D*** MONEY if you want something REGULARLY UPDATED!!! OTHERWISE STFU!”

Okay, that’s not quite it but the spirit is there. Maybe we can take some of his blood and inject it in Fred :)
Hope San Diego was pleasant and you didn’t gag on the smoke from the flames now pervading the west coast or stroke out on the soaring temperatures encircling much of the northern hemisphere.

Hey guy, the sites are pretty damn laggy.
I thought that I’d bring that to your attention!

Lovely comic today (888: little changes).

  17. Somebody Else says:

Also: wth is Largo up to in the background? (lol…this won’t end well =)

  18. vexx says:

Clearly, Largo is constructing a force field out of cardboard much like Mr. Spock endeavoured to construct a mnemonic circuit out of stone knives and bearskins … one works with what one has :)
