i should know better…

heh, i should know better than to rant about stuff like like getting negative emails about stuff related to my schedule. My mailbox has been flooded - no idea when i’ll be able to get through all of them, but i will say i appreciate all the kind and supportive words. I really don’t let negative criticism hit me as hard as i used to. Much of it seems almost pointless, just part of the whole ‘its not cool to like MT’ thing that came from who knows where… actually, i suppose it comes from just having a certain level of popularity or readership - it instantly makes you less cool for some reason. Who knows. If anything when you step back from it and look at it all objectively, its been a pretty interesting run, the past six years.

It’s always interesting to hear from people who have been reading it from, say, comic 10. I also hear from some people who read it, then stopped reading for a few years, then came back and caught up but the people who astound me are the ones who just keep reading, and have been doing so since it first went up. When i think of all the things they’ve had to deal with, as well as all the growth and changes Megatokyo and I have gone through in that time… i’m glad that they found it worth sticking to.

Readership gain or loss is kind of hard to track, really. Sometimes people stop reading things just because they drift off to other things. I’m as bad as anyone. I have plenty of sites and comics i’ve read and enjoyed over the years, and with some of them i’ve just drifted away for a while and never actually went back. There is so much out there vying for your attention, so many things to dive into, more often than not loosing someone isn’t an act of them not liking it anymore, its just that their attentions led somewhere else.

Even for me, the focus of my work changes all the time, as has MT. For many people, its been fine, they’ve like where it’s gone. For others, its gone in directions that just don’t appeal to them. From a popularity point of view i probably should have analyzed things and picked the most profitable direction, but alas, my creative stuffs don’t seem to work that way. :)

Anywhoo… the real reason for that MT rant was to clarify what my ’status’ bar really represents - goals i set for myself. It’s kind of dumb to post them that way, maybe - in the end, when i miss one, its not just me that gets bummed but lots of readers. My hope is that for the readers, the the disappointment of missing a goal is balanced by the satisfaction of getting a finished comic. There are times i struggle more than others, but its always worth it - otherwise i would have given up on this adventure long ago.

Oh, and no need to email me. Please. ^^;;

In other news, i got snagged again… damnnit, Asmodeus, you bastard. I ended up letting him pre-order this for me. I just can’t get over how much she looks like Kimiko to me. there are several Saber figures that look like Kimiko, there is some kind of odd similarity they have. Yes, it’s Saber, but to me i’m getting a cute PVC of Kimiko with this preorder. :) I dont have room for lots of figures, so aside from some fantastic Nayuki figure coming down the line in the next year or so, this is it for a while.

I’m going to assume you’ve seen the pre-order for Ayu with taiyaki in hand and a sack of backup taiyaki ….

teh 3v1L … it got me.

  2. Hideki Says:

Wow.. that really does look very similar to Kimiko.

Uber Kawaii!! (Love the maid outfit. Haven’t ever seen one quite like it before..)

dude just tell them to stop reading it if they don’t like it ~_^ kinda simple. Really though, if I were you, I wouldn’t tolerate negative comments. Suggestions (even ones that I don’t agree with) are fine but negative comments are pointless to read. But I don’t know, our standards are different, your all about pleasing the fans, but I think you should do this with a natural flow. Don’t change what you do with megatokyo for others, you might look back on it and regret it =/

It’s a good thing I’m not into the figures. My wife has already told me that she would not be amused. :) We don’t have a lot of space in the apartment as it is but we’re going to get a house next year.

    I’m still here.

I’ve been reading for about two years now, and I love the storyline. Since you are expressing what you want to get out to the world, in my humble little opinion it really shouldn’t matter what a few people think about. Keep up the hard work, it makes many people enjoy the fuirts of your labor.

  8. Ray Kremer Says:

Yeah, the forums always get several threads of support too whenever you mention getting angry e-mails.

  9. Ko_Ryo Says:

uh …haha, yeah after mine like 4 others were made.

    sorry my bad >_<

kinda funny though that we cause more harm than good. one person writes a negative comment, piro rants about it and we cause harm by destroying his email inbox.

Just shows though how much we care.

Oh no, Fred, don’t look at the Haruhi figure. It’s just…too awesome.

Ive never posted before but it is true that people will come to your aid if you say that someone else is putting you down. Just as i read the post i just about emailed you too but i thought that this might happen so i didn’t. I dont think it matters much but Ive been reading megatokyo since i started my freshmen year at highschool. I would read it in my computer Tech class while the teacher was teaching the lesson. I read over 500 pages my freshmen year and im proud of it.
I still read to this day but not at highschool because for some reason they blocked it. T-T . But as soon as i get home i check to see if theres a new one.

P.S. Don’t worry about being late to post your pages for that day. People can wait.
They have no right to complain for your kindness in keeping this a free web comic.

I remember reading a rant, when I was a college freshman (er…freshwoman?), about you losing your job, and putting all your energy into MT instead. It inspired me, that you could turn something that you love into something that you could live off of.

I’m done school now, and I now run my own manga studio (a real one, not an imaginary studio that is used to make fanart/doodles etc. more proffessional). I would REALLY like a publisher for my self-published graphic novel. I’d really appreciate it if you’d take a-looksies at the manga’s official site (secretsofsorcerers.com).

  13. Iamthehobo Says:

Oh noes!~ you got me with that figure, why did i pick today to go back to checking out ur blog…….

Oh well, been redin MT since comic 90 or so, only drifted from the blog, love what you’ve done with it and hope for another sweet 6 years!

  14. vexx Says:

Kudos on today’s MT … we get a glimpse of Miho’s abilities in the “real world” (even if they only may be gymnastics because Ed telegraphs his moves so poorly :) )
Ooh… wonder if that produced an EMP burst near all those darling components in class… eep.

Placed a pre-order for the Ayu figure running with her bag of taiyaki … o teh 3v1L.

  15. Hideki Says:

    Ayu!? With Taiyaki?!

…It truely is ultimate sux0rz to be broke.

On another note, todays page was awesome! Gotta love Miho and her 3v1l moves. ^_^

And yeah, you’ve gotta wonder just how much she can do, how far can she go?

    what is this powah?
