Settling down
As most of you are by now aware, a little over a week ago our son Jack Obadiah was born. We knew he would probably be coming early (as indicated in the rant that is at this moment still up). I’ve had a lot of crazy stressed out weeks, but last week topped them all.
No, not just because it was our first week as new parents (in and of itself a life changing event) but because Baby Jack came early and we had to deal with a number of potential problems, one after the other, that thankfully has all come around and not become problems or health issues. After a week, it looked like Baby Jack had cleared entry to the world and really is doing fine. His launch crew is tired, worn out, emotionally drained, but very happy. As i said in the few updates i did to my twitter last week, Mom and Baby are fine and doing well, and now are doing well enough that Dad can relax just a little.
I can honestly say that i didn’t even go near a computer for days last week. I really need to say a big thank you to Dom and the rest of the MT crew for covering the site for me this week. I AM sorry about a whole week of Shirt Guy Dom comics. Thanks for being patient as i get my act together and get back to work, this time as the proud dad of a great little guy named Jack.
Now to work on a MT rant to give a slightly better account of how everything went down ![]()

Congratz on the Big Event, and DOM did not do too bad this time!! Was actually funny for DOM!
November 20th, 2007 at 2:59 pm
Glad to hear it fred. Dom wasn’t bad it was kind of entertaining. It was interesting telling some friends who were wearing megagear the other day that she gave birth. It was a fun shock to see there face i look forward to hearing what you have to say on the whole parenthood thing.

All us readers are extremely happy for you -take all the time you need fred!

Dude. Your wife had a baby. The only people who didn’t understand are dicks who would complain no matter what. And who gives a flying #(&% on what they think? I’m glad to hear Sarah and Jack are doing well, and hope that you’re going to spend a moment to relax as well. I mean, other businesses give dads paternity leave… we’ll understand if you grant yourself some as well.
Take care, Fred. I patiently await MT’s return… and in the meantime am amusing myself with various horrid fates to inflict on Dom for the SGD comics.

I think we all await eagerly, what kind of effect this new set of real life emotions will have on the further devellopment of the MT characters.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:31 pm
Congrats! I’m glad it’s all smoothing out. Family first, comics second. I love MT, but I can wait. ^_^
November 20th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

November 20th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
No worries bro. Just give me a shout if I can help at all.
November 20th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Congratulations, glad everything is going ok and good to hear Mum and Baby are doing well.

All of you have earned the right to take it easy for a bit!
[Seriously - that includes you
November 20th, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Seriously, Fred, don’t rush it! Take all the time you need with Sarah and Jack. We’ll wait. Dom’s behaving himself surprisingly well, after all….
November 20th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
Congratulations. Glad to hear both mother and baby doing well, it’s the most important thing. You shouldn’t rush back to work, look after those two. And hearing Dom is keeping us plenty entertained by telling people to ‘make babies.’
November 20th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
Congrats on the new baby - very happy for you and relieved that Sarah and Jack are good to go! Actually loved SGD comix this week, and also got a big kick out of the guest comix! Take your time, ENJOY this time - it’s something that only comes around once. We’ll all understand and appreciate you even more when you return!

Having been there and done that, I can totally empathize. Beware those Mega-Stinkeez and enjoy all the time you get being a family before life catches up.
November 20th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
Take a month off to enjoy baby and your lack of sleep. Just don’t inflict Dom on for a month. Maybe the Apple Greeks guys can fill in for a while.
November 20th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
It’s only going to get to be more fun. At least you don’t have your mother-in-law in another country.
I’m going to have to bach it a couple of weeks. That’s scary now that I’m domesticated.
November 20th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Good for you!! Glad the babys fine. Take all the time you need, we will be here when life slows down, comics are not as important as life with the family!
November 20th, 2007 at 10:07 pm
Fred, really glad you and the family are hanging in there with the new baby. It must be hectic as all else, but it’s going to be one heck of a trip for many years to come. Who knows? Jack might even grow up liking coming with you to anime cons. And even better…like harem anime! O_O Let’s hope Key/Visual Arts stick around for another decade, hm?
*laughs* Congrats and keep up the great work with MT and, first and foremost, your wife and child. You’ve got hundreds like me rooting for you guys!
November 20th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
Congrats! ^.^ Don’t push yourself too hard. Your fans do care about you. Again to baby Jake hello, and congrats Fred and Sarah.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Congratulations! Hope everyone is doing well and happy holidays.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:49 pm
Seriously Fred just relax and spend time with your family. They should always be first in your life. We will still be here.
November 20th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
Hardy congratulations to Fred, Sarah and welcome to the new baby Jack! I’ve got a 6-month-old, and only got three days off when she was born, so I know how stressful it can be. I wish Fred sanity, Sarah rest, and Jack an incredible life ahead!
November 20th, 2007 at 11:58 pm

I was the only child born to my parents who *wasn’t* born preeme (my TWIN brothers together weighed 8 pounds and my sister was born at 2 pounds and fit head to toe in my dad’s hand ). You have nothing to worry about with the little guy. In any case, congrats on your new family member–MT can wait for a while so you can get everything to what passes for normalcy with a new baby
November 21st, 2007 at 5:42 am
Congratulations, and here’s to the many, many happy years that lie ahead!
Don’t worry about the comics, there’s no rush. We can wait.

Hey, we knew you’d have your hands full with the new kid. We weren’t gonna sweat anything. You just do what you need to do. We’ll be here when you get back….
…and y’all have a happy Thanksgiving.

Srsly, Dom wasn’t so bad. I’m pretty sure we all expected at least a little (and maybe a lot ^^;) of downtime in the wake of baby Jack coming into the world. Take all the time you need.
Congratulations, and happy thanksgiving!
November 21st, 2007 at 1:50 pm
Speaking as a parent of a two-year-old and remembering what it was like in the early days of our daughter’s debut, I’m frankly astonished that you’ve even found the time to post here! ^_^
Please, take the time you need with Sarah and Jack, and don’t feel guilty about it. Anyone who’s at all rational about it will understand that you’ve got more important things to deal with.
And also, congratulations!
November 21st, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Don’t worry, be happy. You now have a little bundle of joy to take carry of! Have a wonderful holiday and just relax, okay?

Congrats to the new family! Do what needs to be done, the comic can and will wait, if I remember what a new addition to the household brings. Your comic Roxxorz, but Sarah ‘n Jack come first…….
Great Life to all.

sw33tness!! congrats on the little tyke
and yeah, us fans can wait till you three get settled down a little better
just remember; sanity gets you nowhere, everyone needs to be a little insane to survive
on that note… Dom could use a little -less- insanity…

My son’s 20 now, and having the time of his life in Guatemala, South America. Even considering the fact that he and his fiancee are splitting up and returning to the states. Enjoy the times of young Jack growing up, it seems too soon that they get so big. *sigh*
