SEBURO BoBsonS

The current omake relies so heavily on almost fanboy-like knowledge of not only Full Metal Panic and Clannad but a plethera of other anime and other creative works that i’m going to work with Ray and WK to pull together a little guide to walk you through all of them.  This way, if you are not a hard core fanboy of such things you can get a sense of the kind of useless knowledge that runs through our heads.

I am fond of putting in odd little details, for example - there is a peverse logic to the kinds of firearms being fielded in this omake.  I’m not sure if anyone has identified the handgun that Piroko is using - it’s a Seburo BoBsonS, which is the only weapon in the omake so far that is not an actual production weapon.

I’m actually getting a headache just thinking about pulling all this randomness together.  Wheee.  :)

… See this is why Grand Theft Colo worked so well. You didn’t need to be a fan at all to get what was going on. It was just well drawn and interesting. The characters fit really well, and it was hilarious.

This one? Not so much. I haven’t seen Full Metal Panic or Clannad (And don’t ever intend to see either.) So this omake is hard to follow for me, and makes it completely not interesting. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I’ve been enjoying this one even without having seen either (their on my to do list.) As for useless trivial knowledge in the head…

The Titanic sank with 2 tons of butter on board. Now THAT is useless knowledge.

I love both Clannad and Full Metal Panic, and this omake makes me laugh with every comic so far. The fact that Piroko is a gun toting Fuko make me laugh even harder. ^_^

I also love a number of anime. When you say Seburo my mind is in Shirow Masamune’s Appleseed or GITS or EXON DEPOT or INTRON DEPOT… dare I mention his Tank Police data book too. Hehehe… I love that stuff.

Then on another anime note there’s something about Miho’s point blank range to that Seburo that reminds me of how Gally from Gunnm exposed the metal skull of her “Tuned” double in a fight. Stuff like that is very cool. A guide from you, Ray and WK on the stuff would be great. ^_^

I have to admit to being lost… my main struggle with comics / manga in any form, whether online or in print, is that if I don’t have some idea of what’s going on already, my eyes can’t sort out what’s happening in the artwork. Looking forward to a synopsis or reference guide.

Gotta admit, I’ve been a little lost, but this omkae got me started watching FMP (and it’s associated works) and I was already digging Clannad. Seeing Piroko as Fuko had me ROLLING. Definitely one that will encourage us to broaden our horizons a little just to see if we’ll get the nitpicky details the next time we read through it. Can’t wait to see the reader’s guide for this though because for every thing I saw and snickered about I’m sure there’s two or three that I missed!

Honestly, this omake has -finally- turned me off megatokyo. I don’t know FMP or Clanned, and I’m not terribly interested in either. The story for MT has been lagging for so long -can we really believe that it’s only been -what, seven or eight days in Megatokyoland? Should I have to go out and rent a dvd series or buy a console and game to get the jokes? I don’t have the cash for that, and honestly, is the payoff worth it? To get a joke in a webcomic?

The omake itself feels like it’s gone on way too long, and parts of it are so visually cluttered that I have an even harder time following it. I love your art Fred, it’s the only thing that’s kept me coming back time and time again. But it’s getting to the point where I’m so uninterested in the story that I skim the art in the comic to see if it’s worth reading.

It seriously makes me sad to think that, but it’s the truth. Good luck dude.

I agree with some other reviewers, it is kinda difficult to follow when a persons never seen the show your basing the omake on. I think the omake’s still good and I’m enjoying reading it.

Those who allow themselves to be easily discouraged miss the spice of life.

  10. Rah Says:

Ok, I am following it so far. I’ve seen FMP but not Clannad, although it might become my new goal to do so. There are two things I don’t get. Are people sticking there heads out of trap doors in the sky? and who is the guy who just picked up Piroko? Is that suppose to be ed? Is it even a guy? Does anyone know?

  11. Colin Howell Says:

    > Are people sticking there heads out of trap doors in the sky?

Remember how the mechs in FMP could cloak themselves?

    > and who is the guy who just picked up Piroko? Is that suppose to be ed? Is it even a guy? Does anyone know?

It’s Miho’s RPG game character from Megatokyo. (I forget what the game was called.)

  12. Rah Says:

Ohh yeah, duh. Thanks its been a while since i have seen FMP. I completly forgot about Miho’s character, he was only in the the story those couple of comics way back when.

  13. R.g. Says:

I admit that I didn’t understand the omake at all, but I really wish I could have, because all the backstory that was going over my head seemed really interesting (and the art was beautiful as usual). The first half I could kind of get a wobbly sense of, but then when Piroko and Miho’s alter-ego showed up I was like, “Who are they? Why are they here? What’s their goal? WHAT’S GOING ON?!” But it looked so cool! Please hurry on the reference guide! (For some reason I expected the omake to be longer, too; it had so much story crammed into it, I was surprised when you announced you were about to post the last comic. It felt like it was just getting started, but I suppose I should have expected the shortness; it’s not a new series, after all.)

  14. Zanarath Says:

Hey well…Cool I get to type here nice story mann

  15. milkypink Says:

I really liked the omake, and I only know (and love) Clannad out of the two series it’s drawn from. I feel like an omake is basically a chance for the creator to put his/her characters in a new setting, without worrying about messing up the pre-existing canon. It’s an opportunity to stretch or just have fun and certainly not a reason for canon-lovers to turn their back on the comic all together.
I do have to say I enjoyed the tie-in to the canon at the end <3 I’m excited to see where MT goes next :D
